Wait. Did the people actually get to vote? I was under the impression that the people voted not to change it but legislators decided to change it anyways. Maybe I dreamt that

Would that be the same way you deal with your wife's boyfriends... or something else?

It was a model of direct democracy in action. Legislature and governor decide to toss the old flag with no input from anyone, set up a "commission" to get input on the new flag design... finally narrow it down to one flag entirely on their own, and then tell residents of the state, "vote for this flag or we'll drag you through this eight month process all over again until you like what we give you."

Great work done by all.

Be aware, this is just coming from memory.

If I remember correctly, the state legislature has decided that the Mississippi flag should change. Probably because lawmakers from both sides agreed that keeping the Confederate symbolism on the previous flag is just too much of a hassle. Eventually, the Magnolia became the final design and sent to the November 3rd ballot.

There, the people of Mississippi went through a direct democratic process on voting on if this design is what they wanted as their state flag.

We did not vote to change it.. only to approve of a design handed to us by the asshats in Jackson. Had the people truly been able to decide it would still be the same.

If that happened, diabetes would be more prevalent in Mississippi.

I’m glad to not have to discuss the flag anymore. It was an albatross we are now rid of. Time to get back to fixing real Mississippi problems

All correct.

I hope this was well-hidden sarcasm? I've lived in MS for 7 years and "the flag" never came up in a single discussion I ever had with anyone of any color about any topic. No one cared until politicians started their virtue signaling hand wringing.

It has a sensual Georgia O'Keeffe feel to it with the blossoming flower that should play well the women's sports.

The flag design is shite and I'll never fly it. The great river flag was exceptional and should have been the choice.

I like the magnolia flag a lot better than the great river flag.

It is impossible to vote for a "new" design when the old design isn't an option.
