Never known anyone who refused to earn an extra dollar because 35 cents of it was going to

This was in another thread and it's such a common yet stupid utterance that it deserves it's own thread.
Are people REALLY this stupid that they don't understand? If so, then read and learn.
Sure. No one is going to refuse an extra dollar for the SAME work.
But, that's not the point.
When engaging in risk activities, the marginal value of the risk is always in play. That's because there's......you know.......RISK!
When deciding whether or not to take a risk, the value earned by the risk is weighed against the risk. IE, I might be willing to spend 60 hours per week and $200K of my money if the potential return was $400K, but, I might not if the potential return was only $25K because again.........there's an actual risk I won't get return at all.
As such, my tax rate affects my potential return.
The bottom line being, the marginal value of earnings above X, if reduced by higher taxation, may make THOSE earnings not worthy of the risk while earnings below X are still worthy of the risk.
You need to pull your brains away from treating that extra buck as some sort of guarantee and understand the concept of risk. (not to mention value of adding labor).
Speaking of labor..........I mean, I might be willing to work 60 hours to get X but if working 70 hours only gets me to X + an amount I'm not happy with, the extra 10 hours may not be worth it.

When conversations about tax reform begin with changing rates, rabble rabble deductions/loopholes and rabble rabble X number of income brackets, we've already lost. Tax on labor is the problem.

Poors will refuse work if the increase in pay threatens their ability to get full government bennies.

So much for being able to man up and admit you said something stupid. No reason to do so here, the assholes will make a
Thread to mock you anyway. To hell with well reasoned or respectful discussion.

Did you man up in the other thread? If you did, that's on me. I missed it.

You need to go out to the delta and chat with some farm hands.
“No boss, I can’t work another week this month, it will mess up my food stamps....” is always an interesting conversation

Have a low flat tax with no deductions and drastically cut the IRS, audit military, welfare, and payroll spending.
Taxation is theft but it isn't going to go away.

I haven't taken a raise in 10 years because I don't want to pay the extra taxes.
But I work for a company that gives me a credit card to make up the difference

It’s cool. after I read the responses to my post I was able to think of examples of myself turning down opportunities because the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. It’s raise time here and I had the letters I hand out in mind. People bitching about their raise and it being taxed. Want thinking right.

Remove the tax on labor altogether. without it, there will still be plenty of taxes to be paid

It's a pipe dream but it would be nice to just have a sales tax.

Only because we are a nation of ADHD cowards. I am amazed at the focus and determination by the socialists and how they manage to get their issues passed over time.
