My brother is an ex SEAL. I was there for his graduation from BUDS in Coronado. I got to tour the place and watch the classes that were in progress at the time. I am not worried at all about a woman getting the chance to go to BUDS. They won't make it. And BUDS is the easiest part of becoming a SEAL. The only way one becomes a SEAL is she either actually makes it just like a man and they punch that trident into her tit, or they nerf the SEALS so she can survive it. If she does the first one, good on her, but that's pretty much impossible. If the second one happens, the SEALS are over. People who would have been willing to risk their lives amongst peers will no longer be willing to do that since they know their life expectancy is now much less. They are only as good as their weakest link.

Can she carry 250lb of dead weight in pressure situations? Sure.

Right, and the ones not up to the test for SEAL and other such groups don't make it.

Sounds OK to me.

The only thing people are worried about is lowered standards for women, producing a weaker unit, or a woman who fails and then brings stink to the service because she goes crying to the ignorant media.

That's not true. This thread alone shows that this isn't true. There are people who have said that even if they make it they still don't belong. It's somewhat amusing, to be honest.

Forget the other arguments for a second. You want to install an entire infrastructure and allocate valuable recruiting manpower so that an extreme majority of female applicants can wash out?

This isn't as good of a point as you think it is. First, it's apparent that you've never been to Coronado. Second, we spend way more money on more frivolous things.

Yeah some are fat as frick. Fatties don't get different standards than the in shape guys. Why do women get different standards than men?

They shouldn't. Maybe you should be fighting that point instead.

It isn't just the fat dudes either. Men that meet the minimum standards are still physically different.

The oldest of my brothers from my dad's second marriage graduated from BUDS last year and I was there for his pinning too. Going on his first deployment in a month or so. Toured the facilities as well.

Same unless they lower the standards.

Only if the physical requirements to join the Seals is lowered for females.

They shouldn't.

There should be a list of requirements. Sex/gender shouldn't have anything to do with it. If you can meet the requirements (do the job just like everyone else) you can be a SEAL. Period. There should NOT be separate requirements (or exclusions) for men/women.

I haven't read every post, but I haven't seen that sentiment. The "women are inherently unqualified" people cite abilities that are tested during the course of the selection process, like carrying large people a long way. Anyone who passed that portion of the training would not have that shortcoming.

The only problem is a society of activists who think the current standards are "not fair" and demand different standards for different people, as we all saw with the general physical fitness standards pertaining to pull ups and other tests.

That was supposed to be 28 minutes. Even that may not be true but that is what he told me. He is usually a straight up guy.

Isn't it true that MANY High School males break the all time female Olympic records every year?

Meaning, an above average man is faster than the fastest woman in history. Repeat - the fastest woman in HISTORY would NEVER win a HIGH SCHOOL track meet......against boys.

I applaud her effort and toughness, and obvious all around badassery.... but I must admit, if she makes it all the way through, I will question how.

Well that's simply untrue. All it took was Google and 30 seconds

real or fake boobs? The muscle tone may make them look fake?

I guess if she passed and had a mission she could pose as an arab female, flash her boobs as a honey pot-- and proceed to shoot all of the enemies.

When women fail to make it through, they will lower the standards to accommodate them.

Of course they will because then the standards will be deemed "unfair" just like every other affirmative action program ever created.

No, but if you want to use that type of comparison, look at the Hawaii Iron man, lots of SEALs participate, some do very well, but many of them finish behind women. In 2016 the top male finisher in the military division, all branches, finished behind 28 women, one SEAL finished at 16.08, the cutoff for the race is 17.00.

I have no opinion on the matter of women serving in combat.

I do have a question.
How difficult is Ranger School compared to Seal Training?
Yes, I know they have different goals, but just the physical training aspect.
