The reason why politicians don't care about the debt is if we bankrupt as a nation it will be the easiest way for them to get rid of that pesky constitution!

I think it's more personal.
"Yeah, giving away money to get votes and power will eventually crash the nation. But I'll be dead by then so it won't effect me."

We will all be dead eventually.

In 250+ billion years the whole Universe will go dark!

People used to care about the national debt. Clinton actually achieved a balanced budget, and Obama invoked the Simpson-Bowles agreement toward a balanced budget. Now it's cut taxes, cut taxes, cut taxes, E-X-P-A-N-D-I-N-G the deficit, which I believe was the principal reason Democrats gained a net 41 seats in the House. We want some semblance of fiscal sanity.

They care. They want to keep it exactly as is.

When their party is in power, they can use it to their benefit. Keep on spending!.

When they aren't in power, it's a powerful campaign issue. Out of control spending on the backs of future generations! We can't go on like this!

No one cares about the debt and anyone that is serious about it, honestly could never get elected.

Well, it won't be from debt. It will be from a killer asteroid. I read it back in 1992. 'The chance of a giant asteroid hitting the earth and destroying all life is almost 100% probable sometime in the next 50 billion years."

People used to care about the national debt. The Republican controlled congress actually achieved a balanced budget in the 90s, but Obama increased the deficit more than all previous Presidents combined. Now spending increases, spending increases, spending increases , E-X-P-A-N-D-I-N-G the deficit, which I hope one day, the citizens will understand that we do not have a revenue problem; we have a spending problem.

We are not going bankrupt as a nation, ever, no matter how much money we owe ourselves (which is where most of the debt is).

Regarding our debt elsewhere, as the old saying goes 'If you owe the bank $10,000, the bank owns you. If you owe $5,000,000,000,000, you own the bank'

The earth and other rocky planets will be consumed by the Sun in only 3 billion years, and life as we know it will probably cease to exist in maybe a dozen or so generations, thanks to manmade global warming.

geez. You are a delusional dimwit, aren't you. Newt balanced the budget. Congress is responsible for passing a budget. Clinton's proposed budged would have added to the deficit and debt. Newt dragged Clinton kicking and screaming to a balanced budged. Stop trying to rewrite history

yet somehow the govt doubled the debt during his reign.

We will and can bankrupt ourselves. Almost a quarter of our budget now is interest we are paying on our debt. We pay as uch in interest as we do Medicare. If we are unable to make those payment people will stop buying our debt

We will never not make the payments, and no one will ever stop buying our debt.

No, he didn’t. It was never implemented. Where do you get this stuff?

Who cares? As long as our spending doesn’t look like Greece it’s really not a big deal.

Yeah, I remember when Wm. Henry Harrison almost drained the treasury to give Civil War vets a pension. The unintended consequence: About 100 of them went out and married teenage girls so that when they died next month the girls would get the pension for another 80 years.
Those were the days.

It wasn't Wm. Henry Harrison responsible for that shortsighted action. The former president had been dead for 20 years before the Civil War began.

Maybe Benjamin Harrison, 19th President of the US?

Surely you are not this fricking stupid.... So, if Trump comes out a says "I want to balance the budget" are you going to give him credit for "working toward a balanced budget"...

Your hypocrisy is pathetic... Your savior added more to the debt than ALL the other presidents before him COMBINED...

That's it. I get those Harrisons mixed up. The pension issue was the big issue of that campaign and he was a vet.
