As a healthcare professional do you see parallels between conditions such as transgenderism and things like anorexia?

I do see a definite parallel. However, I do not see their negative view of the body that they have been born with, in both circumstances , as the etiology of the problem. The one thing that shows that to me better than any other piece of data is the suicide rate amongst transgender individuals who transition stays approximately just as high as those who do not. This seems to show that, much like anorexia, the body is not the actual issue. It is much deeper, and obviously not alleviated by surgery.....just like anorexia is not solved by holding up a mirror and begging the anorexic to see how thin they are or sitting there and making them eat until they gain weight.

It seems like a dangerous thing to tell these people they're heroes and encourage them to go all in on their condition. 40% suicide rates in any demographic should be a red flag, but it seems to be largely ignored in this one.
