My image of Maureen Dowd has been shattered

I've been reading her column for decades. I always pictured her as a middle aged, thin, erudite, sophisticated elitist liberal snob.
I just saw her live on Cspan. She looks and sounds like she lives in a trailer park.
She talks very slowly and cannot construct a sentence without 3 'uhms' and 5 'ya knows.' She's wearing a sleeveless blouse exposing arms that have more body fat Charles Barkley's butt.
If Hawaiians saw her they'd want to build a fire pit and throw her in.
Her answers to simple questions from the liberal host are so mindless that the other liberals on the panel are helping her out. What a moron.

She writes several orders of magnitude more competently than she speaks, no question.
And the "slowly" must be a new thing - normally, she talks too quickly, in my experience. (NVM - I'm thinking of Camille Paglia on the talking way, way too quickly.)

I think all the plastic surgery has effected her speech and her brains as well.
She was definitely an elite socialite for several decades - probably still is to some extent. Your initial impression wasn't incorrect - she's just become addled recently

It's not just that. I thought every woman in the world (who doesn't shop at Kmart) knew that you don't wear sleeveless tops when you're a fatty. Maybe she was thin when she was 30. But she has to own a mirror.

Zach, as I read your post I experienced what I can only describe as a cascade of laughter. I don't get amused by just anything, but every line was like a self-contained little gem of funniness.
