OK, so she is an embarrassment. Certainly the state of Mississippi can generate a better candidate than this one. Let's stipulate that this is all true.

However, if I lived in Mississippi I would vote for Hyde-Smith without hesitation. The fact is that she is one of 100 U.S. senators. She will vote the right way almost all of the time, and it is more important for the Republicans to have that additional vote than it is to have a brilliant senator from the state. Espy would be a disaster simply on policy grounds, while Hyde-Smith will do the right things from a policy standpoint. The Republicans can afford to have a few weak spots in its caucus so long as they build on their majority.

Let's stop thinking about voting for the best person in each specific race. Instead, let's think about selecting a Republican (conservative) majority. We are better off with a Republican majority that has a few duds than a Republican minority comprised completely of brilliant and articulate statesmen. With a Republican majority (even with a few duds), the country moves in the right direction. In the minority the country definitely moves in the wrong direction.

This is all that matters.

How well your Senator speaks publicly is irrelevant. What they look like is irrelevant. What matters is if they will support legislation you agree with and judges you want.

I'm voting for her. As a junior Senator from Mississippi with a 2 year term and a GOP majority, she has about as much clout as I do.

My post was just to point out how bad both of them did in the debate tonight. No one is changing their vote in freaking Mississippi over this debate, but it was an embarrassment to watch these two go at it knowing that one of them would be a Senator.

The downvotes are irrational. It’s retarded that she’s our best option.

Everyone knows she is a shitty politician and that we do not have any good politicians in MS that could take her place (McDaniel is even more detestable), but it is what it is. If a better one comes along I will vote for them, but as it stands, it is cow-smith.

BS.

Billy Hewes would've been a good choice. Another four years and Toby wouldn't be so bad. Phil Fisher is damn sure qualified than she is and would've started with the same amount of base. Doty is smarter and better looking. Delbert would've been a shoe-in but wanted to be LG. Tate wanted to be Gov. It was his for the asking though.

I voted for McDaniel (I didn't really even like him) and it didn't work out. Now I gotta hold my nose and vote for Hyde-Smith.

:sigh:

It’s for two years of a term. This is a lose-lose for Republicans. If CHS loses the Dems have the seat for two years. If CHS wins m, she’s gonna have a big target on her back for 2020 and 6 years will be at stake.

Disagree. I will run and beat her in a primary in 2020 for the Republican seat. I can win MS. I know more shite than they do.

Admittly I did not watch the debate because I fricking hate watching politicians. That said, are yall judging what her performance will be as a senator based on her ability to give a good public debate? Seems a little harsh. I guarantee there are some people who would be terrible at a debate but would make mississippi an excellent senatorial representative.

She’s barely even capable of reading prepared remarks much less debate.

In her defense (and I don’t really care much for her), she has probably never debated in a political forum.

She is a terrible choice by Bryant. Fortunately, the Dems didn’t pick much better.

Well maybe you shouldn't judge her ability to be a good senator based on her ability to read prepared remarks?

I dunno, fuggit. A doorknob would get my vote at this point if it has an R beside it.

I wouldn’t trust her to take my order at McDonalds.

Epsy will be a Schumer puppet. Can’t have that.

Stick with Cindy!! For Trump’s sake.

Yeeeeeeaaaaaa. That’s why Kamala Harris and Cory Booker has been in the state campaigning for him.

He would be another Benny Thompson. He would just be in the Senate. Anyone not familiar with the 2nd district of MS, that means he would do absolutely nothing but show up vote the way he is told, sit and pout in the SOTU like he is instructed to, make sure he gets all of his fat arse in every black caucus picture, and collect his extra outside cash that lobbyists just accidentally leave laying around. Espy has actually already been experienced in the cash grab. The rest would come easy.
