Mississippi doing dumb things. Shocking revelation: TLDR warning, let us fricking fish

So, since we’ve had a shortage of meat in the grocery stores in my local area, and my old paranoid mother has been begging us not to go into crowded places like grocery stores, my brother and I decided this would be a great time to go catch a mess of fish, live off the land a little, and basically stay away from other people in general.
Well last weekend we took our small boat and put in on the tallahatchie River in the upper end of Sardis lake. All the Mississippi reservoirs are very flooded at the moment and we intended to catch a bunch of crappie (my favorite fish) up in the shallow cypress trees and bushes.
Well we were unlucky as shite with crappie, but did however catch as many 1/2 - 1 pound white river cats as we could handle. Dressed that mess of fish and had one of the most satisfying meals I’ve had in a few weeks. We went 3 days in a row and were pretty much just as successful each time. Kept one of our messes live to put in our family pond but otherwise still had a lot of meat.
With not much of shite else to do I was hoping to do this every weekend until we couldn’t catch anything else and wait for this to blow over. I know another poster started a thread gloating about Arkansas not having shelter in place orders, and neither do we for the most part, I go to work every day, so it’s not one of those deals.
Enter into the equation Mississippi governor Tate Reeves. I held my nose and voted for him because the alternative was unthinkable, but I cannot stand the man. Anyway last week he issues this proclamation that all public recreational areas in the state are henceforth shut off from the public for an indefinite period of time. This includes the beaches on the coast and the US Army corps of engineers controlled reservoirs (Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid, Grenada, etc.). LINK
At first we think surely this can’t be serious, but over the course of the week I know multiple people who have gotten ticketed and ordered to leave after putting out at Sardis.
So tell me this, how in god’s name is this a good policy? Not only are we lessening the problem of overcrowding in stores, and exposure to other people, but we are legitimately attempting to do something productive to take care of ourselves. You know how close you get to other boats with people out in a gigantic lake? Not very. And to ticket people in a time of financial crisis? Makes my blood boil.
Tate Reeves is a fricking coward bowing to any sort of political pressure to make it look like he cares, but he can suck my dick in hell. Are there no advisory boards that weigh pros and cons for this type of shite?
Any other states dealing with anything like this? Yes, I mad.

Help me with this. I speak only basic redneck. How many in a Mess of fish?
Posted on 4/8/20 at 5:02 am to South21
30ish in this case. Depends on the species and size of the fish.

Government over reach plain and simple.

Sent the wife and baby girl to the beach this weekend in the bay... NFGs. I know some people who went fishing in the Bay and DMR was patrolling and telling people not to get within 100' of each other's boats or some stupid shite but that's about it down here.

Well that’s a lot more reasonable than here. I guess it would be difficult to enforce out in the bays though when we have just a handful of boat ramps they can easily patrol

For the wise arse from earlier, this is a decent mess. Nothing to brag about. These smaller ones taste better though.

They closed the beaches in Virginia but you can still go as long as it’s for exercise or fishing. Just no sunbathing or leisure

You're on the wrong road baw

I know multiple people that have gotten ticketed for putting their boats in at the new ramp on the tallahatchie and hwy 7. It is asinine

Oh yes, I can go 15 miles upriver to the next boat landing and get away with it but we were wearing them out there and Tate Reeves is a son of a bitch

Fishing is grocery shopping, right?

I’m surprised this isn’t what has caused the biggest uproar in the South. I know baws whom Reservoir crappie is their staple food.
I thought this would be the bridge too far for southerners.
When it comes down to it we really won’t push back until our lives are seriously threatened, if that. People do what they are commanded to do.
There’s gotta be that one baw with nothing to lose willing to go to jail for fishing.
