I know little to nothing but assume that this would make staging and organizing easier. How would this help to evacuate people? Not being ugly at all .. trying to understand. How far away is it from the Kabul airport?

Could the 455th AEW have kept the Taliban in check until civilians were evacuated if they weren't pulled before hand?
