Presuming you're an adult, and would taken no offense at jokes by an adult targeting a child, you're likely to hear more still.

My first thoughts weren't political or racial. As an adoptive mother, I shook my head at the disrespect the family was given. Interracial adoption isn't always easy for the children or the family and it's bc of this type of reaction. To highlight that on a show that claims to be progressive was mind boggling.
I wasnt offended. I simply thought it was ignorant and incredibly insensitive. That child will hear plenty of that nonsense while growing up. Thankfully, he seems to have a large family to give him support and help him know he is an included and important part of the family - not just the token adopted black kid.
Yep, here's my little guy.
Luckily I live in a place where people don't care about race. When he grows up and gets out in the real world, he'll have to come to grips with some things. For now he's colorblind.
We have a girl too. Her father was from Honduras. She's a little more aware of cultural things, even at 6 years of age.

Thanks for the updated pics, Roger.
Your children are beautiful. Luckily, both are being raised to not think about the differences and your local culture supports that view. As you know, raising an interracial child in other places can be much harder as people seem to be so focused on differences. Hence the "One of these things is not like the other" jingle in that segment. Not even very original.
How old are they? Mine is now 7. My avi pic is pretty outdated now.
It makes my heart smile to see how happy your kids are. Well done, Dad.

8 and 6.
The 8 year old invested in a gumball machine and is convinced he's making money today...
I guess I need more change tomorrow.

You're gonna have to watch that one...
We've also got a 9 year old visiting for the winter from Arkansas. One of my wife's distant relatives who was having financial trouble so we brought her up here for at least a year. She's mixed race and having a great time.
Kids shouldn't ever have to feel they are different and there's no reason to make them feel that way.

Look at the smile on her face! It's awesome that you are able to take her in and raise your whole family n such a loving environment. Kids should just get to be kids without the bs adults bring.
Would love to have our families meet up if we ever actually make it to Anchorage this year. It's been planned for 2 years but keeps getting moved back.
ETA - my boy would love to sled like that. Beats the heck out of riding a laundry basket down the "slope" of our lawn.

Ever been? Not a bad city, really

They are sledding on a glacial feature called a Kame. It's an iceberg that's covered with sand over the years as a glacier advances and retreats. Really unique place to sled for the kids near the face of a glacier. LINK
I walked out on the lake with them to a bergy bit (legit name for a small iceberg) the other week.

My husband wants to hunt Alaska & eventually buy a place somewhere up there for vacations. He watches real estate reality show about buying houses in Alaska every week. I have to admit that some of those places have scared me a little either due to price or, if the price is do-able, the outhouse.
He wants to visit several areas while there. I just want to travel somewhere, light a fire, pour a glass of wine & bundle up with nature for a week. I guess that's why I'm not super excited about Anchorage, per se. He will sell me when he finds a more remote - but not TOO remote - place for us to stay.
Oh, and now I have to see a bergy bit in person. That is really very cool.

Look in the Kenai Peninsula and the Mat-Su Valley. Both are considered "Anchorage playground" and land is fairly affordable. There are some nice cabins in the area. If you ever need info, I can certainly help, I'm very familiar with much of the state and get around quite a bit...
One of our posters Blue Velevet is moving to the Kenai in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the info
I'll have to touch base with you when we pull out a map and start planning. I love nature but I also really love hot showers and internet availability to download books. Oh, and a place to buy wine somewhat nearby would be very useful.
I just read my post and my husband is right. It sounds like I want to build a house in the Alaskan burbs.

Eagle River is the burbs. Just 10 miles from Anchorage.
Palmer would be perfect. Affordable, beautiful, surrounded on three sides by mountains, 40 minutes from Anchorage. Lived outside of Palmer for a bit.
Wild but somewhat suburban, two glacial rivers run through it. Loaded with moose too.
Yeah, if you folks ever decide to plan it out, I'll give you my email address.

Perfect. Yes, Palmer does sound good. I'd like to not be able to see my neighbors from my house & have beautiful scenery but I'd also like to actually have neighbors. When we are there, my husband would likely be gone for much of the time hunting in a more secluded place and I'd be there alone.

No, you pointy headed, condescending bubble of bullshite. It's the double standard of offense, and I never see you or anyone on the left rushing to Don Imus' defense, for example. And that was clearly just a joke.
But we'll see if you come here defending the next manufactured lefty outrage or if you hold consistent to your word. Time will tell. Until then, I'll be fine without the amateur psychology.
