We have family reunion in Branson every year in early June and eat at the College of Ozarks restaurant, where students get credit for running this on campus restaurant

Awesome place and food

Thanks for the mention

And you think "liberal" schools are the problem?

Yes - yes I do.

"Liberal" universities lead the way to the wussification of America.

Yes as they’re not schools but instead just indoctrination centers is all

Yep. I’m glad this works for them, but it isn’t a model that is going to overtake higher ed.

Why do you think that?

I’d say a number of tenured professors don’t put much emphasis on teaching. I think that’s problematic.

Aren't you admired here for your contrarian abilities?

The above is not your best work.

I am almost 100% positive you think it's pronounced as "re-a-tore-ick."

Help me out here...which university research department came up with the iPhone, telephone, telegraph, penicillin, etc?

The revolutionary advances that have shaped our lives have come from a private sector that was allowed to reap the fruits of their labor. Much of what is produced by university research departments is garbage intended to harvest research dollars from .gov.

In my reaidency we had a full time employee whose only job was to find a way to maximize grant money.

Rather save in a 529 and send my kid to a big public state school. Let them experience the best 4-5 Years of their life like I did (provided a certain gpa is maintained and they pick an employable major).

I find it interesting that a LSU board is so anti-college and so anti-liberal arts which is what LSU does a lot of. I doubt you could field a competitive FB team without liberal arts majors. If you want to be Rice in FB and basketball go for it then.

Is COO producing research that is improving life in the country like so many universities are?

It’s producing adults that are improving this country, unlike so many universities are.

We went to Branson last year twice and I was so impressed with the place that I bought a Hard Work U tee shirt. It will be a college my kids apply to when the time comes

It doesn’t take notoriety to make a difference in the world. See the Kardashians.

You do realize that a lot of those have predecessors, components, or successors that were created by Universities. See e.g. the internet which is the outgrowth of both government research and universities. Without the internet, no iPhone.

That also ignores the progress and research in hard sciences which have advanced engineering other more directly society shaping disciplines.

No argument that a majority of it is garbage. Doesn’t mean some of it isn’t valuable.

Be careful of forcing an employable major in your kid. Yes you want him to get a job, but do you want him to spend 30 years at a job you don't like? Sure if takes a major that he doesn't like he most likely won't have higher grades and he will be less likely to do thing the things like internships and go to conferences if he has a major he doesn't like.

A smart kid who can work hard and read, write, think, and communicate well will do well with a lot of majors.

Wouldn’t force anything. Just wouldn’t pay for a BS degree. Incentives work
