The elderly would likely stay, but the young would be forced to leave.
Young people under 30 do not go to the Hospital. Would not impact them.

I am always surprised when so many are against Medicare/medicaid (according to polls)

Rural America did just fine when churches and charities took care of the elderly and infirmed.
It all fell apart with government welfare that was no longer just for those that truly couldn't fend for themselves.
The whole system is coming apart because we have a huge population of otherwise healthy people basically being parasites on the system.
The only way to fix it is make people between the ages of 18 and 65 that are otherwise healthy work. No EBT, no section 8, no Medicaid, no welfare, go to fricking work or perish.

Go find the fraud thread in California. Two billion dollars. With a little clean up (little being sarcasm) there would be money to help these rural hospitals. However, even well run hospitals should not rely entirely on Medicare to stay open. That is not the government's responsibility. It's like any other business. I hate for rural elderly for having to drive farther to get good healthcare, but unfortunately, small rural hospitals don't or can't provide quality healthcare because you can't get good quality providers to live and work there.

Because the government poked it's dick into another industry driving up costs. The only way to fix it is more government..... obviously.

50 years ago Medicaid accounted for 10% of total U.S. healthcare costs. Today it accounts for over 18%.
50 years ago Medicare accounted for 10% of total U.S. healthcare costs. Today it accounts for 22%.
How can you say people are against it? People have voted for doubling both.
