They are going to build small sections in areas that are not the major hubs for illegal crossing strictly for optics to use as a talking piece for the 2024 elections.

This is not them realizing they made a mistake. They intentionally flooded the border with illegals providing incentives, asylum rules, etc to attract them.
They knew it wouldn't be popular after it started impacting other areas of the country with illegals. But as it gets closer to elections, they can reverse course to help all the democrats in 2024. This isn't about saving Joe, but it is about saving whoever is the Dem nominee and the dems in congress who have gone along with it.
These dems in 2024 can say we support reducing immigration while ignoring their complicity the previous 2 years.
The long game however is in a few years when they try to pass immigration and amnesty to those that sought "asylum" from 3rd world countries and have them come out of the shadows.
The justice system has no way of handling these cases and the asylum bit was a ruse to get as many in. Are you really going to be able to find and deport all these people who many will have anchor babies.
