Saw this documentary the other night:
Concerning the reputed 'father of the US Cavalry" - a Polish revolutionary who escaped to England and then recruited by Benjamin Franklin to come to America - he help organize the fledgling American cavalry, having been a very effective officer in Poland. At one point he saved the life of George Washington by taking the initiative (not in a command position at the time but organized the charge) to cut off a raiding English cavalry unit that was rapidly approaching the Washington camp. Washington made him an officer.

They were having to renovate the base of the Pulaski statue and discovered his bones. Upon examination they discovered that these were the bones of a female.
Since the provenance of whose bones they were was not solid, the rest of the program was about their efforts to determine if the remains were truly his. Finally substantiated via extensive DNA tracing that it was him to a statistical certainty.
Interesting story - I had never hear of Polaski before.
