I know we have short attention spans as a country but geez... we spent hours talking about those riots on this board. How is this all new to so many?

Posse commitatus says active duty troops can't do law enforcement, so if anyone it's going to fall to Guard units. I seriously doubt these looters/protestors want to tangle with active duty troops, and vice versa- aside from the legal restrictions.

My fear is that if Guard units are nationalized and Trump gets heavy handed with them, this is going to turn from a protest about MPD killing a civilian to a national protest about Trump. There needs to be a focus on Minneapolis, and Floyd George, not the president.

There are exceptions that can be utilized from the Enforcement Acts - see the Little Rock Nine and the 101st Airborne.

I have to think part of this is cabin fever from the quarantine, but it would behoove all levels of government to keep this as local and non-military as possible for as long as possible. NG aren't really well-trained for riot control, and active duty won't take any prisoners (and certainly aren't trained to do so).

I thought that federal troops were used in the 50s and 60s in the civil rights era. Also in Detroit for the riots there.

The smart play for Trump is to let Democrats run this their way.
