She owns two in Louisiana, along with her family, in a trust. The one on Prieur and one on the lake.

folks think you can get a 2500 sq ft home in the D C - area for 300,000.

If she can afford a $2.5 million home in D.C., why can't she afford one in Louisiana?
Would it make her a better Senator? What would she do different if she owned a more expensive house in LA?

Sorry if I'm being obtuse here. I just don't see how it would make someone more likely to vote for her if she owned a more expensive house in LA...

Would an expensive LA home align her politics closer to the people in LA? I think she's pretty misaligned and askew. But her home value has little to do with it...

She "owns" that house in a trust with her family, though her parents live there now.

Tell me how, logistically, it is possible for a family of 4 to "live" in that house along with her parents.

This would be like my friend, who lives and works in BR, claiming that his primary residence is his family's vacation condo on the Gulf Coast in Alabama.

Well... if your assertion is that she doesn't spend enough time among her constituency, you may have a point. I have no idea how much time she spends in local activities (don't live in LA anymore). Feel free to provide.

But I doubt that her family home is the only available place to stay in the entire state. In reality, if she's spending time with the constituency, she shouldn't be home. She should be traveling around the state (LCH, ALX, SHV, etc)...

when did they buy the house?

looks like they had it at least from 1997 and they remodeled it around 2002

If they purchased it in the 90's, they likely didn't spend that much money on it

Just because it's worth 2.5 mil now, doesn't mean it was anywhere CLOSE to that back when they bought it

I'm assuming you voted for John McCain to hold the highest office in the land in 2008. McCain has earned his fortune (and 8 houses) from sucking off the taxpayer's teat and accepting kickbacks from lobbyists.

This same issue has been raised against Pat Roberts, a Rep senator running for reelection and was raised with Richard Lugar, a former Rep senator. The fact is Congress stays in session for most of the year and they fly back and forth on weekends on the public's dime. It's disingenuous for either party to attack opposing members for it.

So you defend Romney specifically yet in the next breath deny voting for McCain who is essentially the same moderate Republican mold as Romney?

Not sure I buy that...

CLEARLY! Her politics don't align with the citizens or state interest in most cases. But I do not, honestly, think buying a house in LA would change her politics. I'm just not seeing the link. Maybe it's me?

I wish US Congress worked like TX Legislature. They only meet every-other-year. As it is, Congress is a full-time job. It should have never morphed into that.

I didn't vote for McCain as you incorrectly assumed.

I don't think her politics would change an iota if she lived here, but it's extremely disingenuous for her to claim that she lives in LA using her parents' address, as part of a family tust, rather than owning her own property.

As I said in previous threads, if she still owned her old house out by Catholic BR, I wouldn't say anything because, ostensibly, the family could come and live in BR if they needed to or wanted to.

Having her primary residence being a mansion in DC sure reinforces the divide between her politics and those of the state, though.

As far as the Texas legislature comments go, I'd *LOVE* that to be the case. Limiting the time that Congresscritters can be in DC severely limits the amount of damage they can do.
