This is just practical advice. ConservativeS like to pretend they’re the practical party till they can’t use the N-word. Then it’s all about equality and idealism.

It's just a word. It's just letters strung together which make a sound. It's not fricking magical.

if you say, "The N Word" you're saying the actual word...only a child thinks differently. You're saying sounds which make the listener have to decipher what you mean, and they ultimately hear THE REAL WORD in their head...meaning, you conveyed that message to them.

I'm not arguing in favor of saying any old thing at work, but pretending there ought to be ANY words that are forbidden in society, or worse, forbidden only for certain sects of society, is just silly.

He is actually reprimanding marines for listening to shite dropping n-bombs over and over again...

He used the word in context as it's not welcome.

Is the word welcome or not?

He's on the side of not...he's not on the hill you think he's on

It's called "spelling" for a reason...

I can magically make a bunch of people unhinged by saying 1 little word...imagine having that much control over other humans...lol

Not allowing words to be forbidden from me? Yup...that's a hill I'll gladly die on. As we can see, it's a slippery slope. How many "forbidden" words are we up to now?

R-Word?
C-Word?
N-Word?

Anyone want to add more?

The Marine Corps is getting soft. He should know better though and has probably been involved in ruining other Marines careers, so fk him.

I'm sure he had "ruined" some careers along the way. How many more did he help move forward? We are talking about a Commanding General being removed because he questioned the use of a WORD that was being used in a rap song. It is about the stupidest thing EVER to weaken your National Defense over.

It amazes me that a military general can train these young men to kill and send them to die in battle but can't have a discussion with them about the use of racist language. Not to mention it is a word they hear a million times in the music they listen to about being a badass and murdering people in the streets but when he brings it up they melt like a bunch of pussies. It is ridiculous.

Reminds me of when a Netflix (I think) exec was talking about taboo words and he said "retard" is the equivalent of the N word.

So yeah, even if one is saying it in the context of saying this word cant be said one can run afoul of the word police.

That's crazy.

But you have to know the times you live in, and we all should know a white guy can't question the double standard without someone losing their mind.

I specifically said in that situation it seems insane.

It’s just sound advice to not use the n-word.

People seem to hate hearing what they already know.

So, can we still say “negro”? Yesterday I bought some of Goya’s Frijoles Negroes.

When I was growing up my mom would admonish us to call n——s the more appropriate term “colored people” but I understand that is out, too. But “people of color” is now ok.

When I was in the Corps we had to say Negro or Afro-American and not African-American. Black was still on the fence.

Eh...this isn't about calling people things. This is, for me anyway, a way to point out that it's absurd to pretend that merely uttering a word out loud (or writing it down, too) even with zero intent to harm is some how a magical event that will harm people around the forbidden letter sequence.

It's crazy. Easiest way to not have to worry about this kind of stuff is to stop pretending any words hold this type of power by simply existing. it's sort of like comedy...either EVERYTHING is on the table or nothing is. You cant have a system where certain groups can use parts of the language while others can not and those that can not are constantly having to ask everyone around them is there are any changes they need to be aware of.

Did a little digging and saw where it was a LCpl (E-3) that through the general under the bus. Figures. He was probably a pogue also

If that guy would have been in my unit he would be getting an arse kicking at night time, especially if we were in the field. We would do that to Marines that needed to get their shite together, of course this guy may have gotten moved for his protection.

But just a general rule of thumb, don’t Say the “n-word” Pretty easy word to avoid. Don’t say it.

So, if he said 'jungle bunny' or 'porch monkey' he would be OK?

Yup. That was about Tom Segura's previous special where he ripped Louisiana (haha.)

quote:

You can’t say “retarded” anymore. [audience laughs] It was just here. Don’t you remember? -“Retarded.” That’s how I… -[audience laughs] People get very upset. I don’t really support the arguments against it. When people are like, “You shouldn’t say it.” “Why?” “What if there’s one over there?” And you’re like… [audience laughs] We never said it like that. We were never like, “Look at that guy!” [audience laughs] You didn’t say it like that. You said it to describe an idea, or a situation, you know? If your friend was like, “I’ll pick you up at your house, and then we’ll come back to my place, and later we can go back to your house. And we can get your bags. And then, we’ll come back over here after that.” And your like, “That’s retarded. Why the frick would we do that?” [audience laughs] But now you can’t say that. Now you’ve gotta be like, “That’s not… smart. Your idea has an extra 21st chromosome, if you ask me.” [audience laughs] It’s not the same.

The Netflix executive was describing the controversy that arose from that special in a meeting and said something to the effect that for advocates, when you say "retarded" it's like saying "niggger" to black people. No intent there, and in fact he was simply explaining why Segura and in turn Netflix caught hell about it.

Great special, btw...called Disgraceful.

So his Marines could sit and listen to music with the n word all day and be cool with it, but the general says it then they are offended? Get outta here.

Simple. There are over 100 derogatory terms for blacks that don't start with 'n.' My favorite is AFI, white South Africans use it. Antique Farm Implements.
Then there are over 1,000 derogatory terms for other races and ethnic groups.
This is getting into a lot of words a general cannot say and keep his job.

Then there are words that are forbidden beyond race, gender or religion. We recently learned that we cannot say 'sexual preference.'

My point: Where does it end?

I mean... don’t say any of them.

And as I said In my first post, I think its Insane to get in trouble in that context but it’s still dumb to ever say the N-word.
