Seems like a perfectly legit statement that demonstrates the ugly word and double standards on its use. It is just as offensive to hear. No one should get a pass.

Patton would have not enjoyed the modern military.

CSB, I know, but true story...

My grandfather met Patton near Belgium, near the front lines during his service in the European Campaign.

Patton questioned what my grandfather was doing (maintenance to HAM radios at a temporary base- Grandpa was a HAM radio operator and forward reconnaissance), then complimented him on a good job and said "Carry on."

Grandpa always referred to him as "Ol Red-faced Patton". Said the man exuded strength and confidence.

Had this been in effect when I served, there’d have been no NCO’s lol.
As someone else alluded to, we are fricked in the next war. Muh feelings.

So he’s relieved of his duties for trying to instill a culture that rejects the denigration of black people?

I think I just lost the well-earned respect I had for the USMC.

Ever wonder why on almost every unit run all you hear is 80s rock?

This is why.

Adds up. Silliness...but, adds up

Right - this is what happens when we make a word conditionally radioactive.

As an example, I could hold a seminar at a major university where we discussed just how hurtful it is for black folks to even hear that word, with loud rap music filtering in from the Quad or Student Union or even have students of African extraction walk by referring to each other using some derivative of the word.

However if I so much as utter the word during the seminar during which I describe how awful the word is or even write it out on the whiteboard (?<- word is racist AF, but I digress), then I'm gone. Finished. Ruined. "You'll never work in this town, again, Ace."

Watch it now, that could be misinterpreted for some other words that are hurtful.

Well. That's absolutely ridiculous. It's amazing they felt willing to do that without being totally embarrassed.

That's why "Peace time Generals" don't usually succeed in wartime.
Remember US Grant was a "drunk".
Patton was threatened for being too outspoken.

Ah, the old n word double standard. I can say it, but you can’t say it, even if quoting someone.

Pretty easy word to avoid. Don’t say it.

If we are going to ban words then it should apply to all.

It amazes me that people constantly seem willing to die on this hill.

Constantly.

This patriot is asking the same questions we conservatives have asked for years, if the N word is abhorrent then it's abhorrent......no exceptions in any circumstances.

Did a little digging and saw where it was a LCpl (E-3) that through the general under the bus. Figures. He was probably a pogue also. The general is an 03 with multiple deployments over his very long and spotless career. A freaking Lance Corporal will be the catalyst that destroys his career.

This is just practical advice. ConservativeS like to pretend they’re the practical party till they can’t use the N-word. Then it’s all about equality and idealism

I don't know many white people that even use the word, especially in a derogatory context, but I do hear it all the time from blacks and mexicans.

To your point, it's a word, not an action. It's obviously NOT the word that "offends" them, it's who's saying it. That indicates that they are holding all white people accountable for the actions of their ancestors, which is, itself, racist.

We are really this soft as a nation? A word made our military leadership weaker today. I hope the Japs and Ruskies don't call our soldiers that mean word if we ever go to war.
