As Republicans work to finalize a massive tax cut for businesses, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) warned his colleagues that the GOP is in danger of solidifying its image as the party that only cares about the very wealthy, which he dubbed the country club set.

“Good time to revisit a landmark 1977 speech given by President Ronald Reagan in which he called for a 'New Republican Party' that will not be and cannot be one limited to the country club-big business image,” he tweeted Friday morning. “The New Republican Party .?.?. is going to have room for the man & the woman in the factories, for the farmer, for the cop on the beat.”

quote:

Rubio tweeted Friday that too often Republicans have dismissed the fact that 60 percent of the households that don't pay federal income taxes do pay payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare. His proposal with Lee would have helped those people.

“You're telling me that if we have a corporate tax rate that goes from 35 percent to 20.94 percent, that’s going to hurt growth?” Rubio said Friday on the floor of the Senate.

Ever since Marco joined the Senate the GOPe has been actively working against him and and fellow patriots. The GOP has become what Marco has termed the country club party only concerned about the most rich amongst us. Marco is a working class American that understands the struggles of what the GOPe would consider the prole American. He wants to help everyone realize the American dream and has always sought to do so as an outsider in the GOP.

Wut

...what's Marco's take on the uniparty?
Why does he play in the illusions generated by the press?
What's his take on "the storm"?

You can’t be this stupid. He’s talking about the GOPe in Congress not Trump or his supporters.

You’re exactly right. He used those rubes to advance the interests of the country club set.

Bad message he’s spreading IMO.

His marketing message needs to be retracted bc it appears he’s saying white people instead. Country club = crackers

Not sure he understands the Trumpkin demographic. While white, they are more blue collar than traditional republicans like Bush or Rubio.

So you are saying you disagree with Ronald Reagan’s characterization then? That is exactly where Marco got it from. Being the most Reagan like politician in Congress today Marco is simply showing how Reagan foretold of this exact scenario coming to fruition and as the leader of the new Republican Party Marco is trying to change that image.

Y’all need to keep your narrative straight. Did socialist Obama tank the economy or was he a Wall Street darling/Goldman Sachs pawn?

Sorry my iPad autocorrected to retracted. I meant to say recrafted.

His message should be about inclusion Marco and tailor the message as such.

Likening GOP to country clubbers only continues to exclude Hispanics and blacks. I really believe the future of the GOP rests with wooing Hispanics to our team.

lulz I know you are a yuge Rubio guy but let’s not exaggerate that he is the leader of the new Republican party. If you weren’t here posting Rubio threads, none of us would even know wtf Marco was even doing bc his voice doesn’t carry. And fwiw, I really like Marco.

Yet most of the big money goes to the Democrats and it’s the Republicans who are the party of the rich?

Hell, it was known well in advance how bought Hillary was by Wall Street and she still won the Democrat nomination over robbing hood Bernie.

That’s not even counting money from other foreign nations, or does that no fit your narrative?

Trumps followers/slaves ARE NOT country club types, the GOP has been hijacked by poor white people.
