A Florida man drew ire over the weekend when he entered and won a women’s poker tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the Sunshine State.

quote:

Dave Hughes, 70, entered the $250 no-limit Texas Hold’em event with a prize pool of up to $17,450. Of the 83 competitors to enter the tournament, 82 of them were women, and the last one was Hughes. Hughes ended up defeating Dayanna Ciabaton at the end and take home $5,555, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

quote:

Hughes was allowed to enter the women’s tournament as Florida casinos are prohibited from banning men from entering women’s tournament, according to anti-discrimination laws. The newspaper noted that Nevada casinos have a similar rule. The World Series of Poker’s Ladies event has a $10,000 buy-in tournament, and women receive a 90% discount in hopes of keeping men from entering.

Whole lotta folks on this board profess to not watching or reading CNN, MSNBC and now FOX. Only to link news events to these sites all day, every day.

Interesting. We all know men have physical advantages, interesting to see how far it encapsulates the mental and intellect components in activities like poker, chess, etc.

Honestly, this one doesn't bother me. There's no real competitive advantage of woman vs. man in poker, that I know of.

It's the physical sports where men dominate women that are clearly the laughing stock of sports right now.

That is how you get them.

It’s pretty hilarious but I don’t feel bad about it.

It hangs up a lot of theories out there.

Man can be a woman.
A woman cannot beat a man in a gambling/thinkers/odds game.

Reminder that every single one of these laws was designed for the forcible inclusion of women into male spaces. That is a main pillar of feminism over the past few decades. There are no male-only spaces anymore. The issue ultimately comes down to freedom of association, and you either have it or you don't.

Men are so much better at being women. It’s embarrassing.

Right, so why do they need their own poker competitions?

I wonder the same about women’s chess tournaments.

I still check FOX News, because they'll at least give both sides in most instances.

For some reason it's taboo even on the right-wing to suggest that the differences between men and women extend beyond the physical and into the cognitive as well. The top 100 chess players in the world are all men. Even just pointing out a documented fact like this will send quite a few into a frenzy.

Know thy enemy because he surely knows you. I don't want to read these sites. I appreciate the few that have to read, filter, warn, and disseminate their agendas and exposing these media outlets as false prophets.

There’s no real advantage for men over women in poker.
Seeing televised tournaments, one of the Tilley sisters (I can’t recall which one)had a real advantage when she wore the low neckline dresses.

I'm okay with that. There's no unfair advantage in poker, between males and females.

My son jointed the chess club in HS. They played during once a week during an activity period. I asked him how many members they had:
Him: 'About 30 guys. No girls at all.'
