Correction to my earlier post about the broken glacier. It wasn't a kilometer thick. It plunged a kilometer down the mountain into the river.

This morning, the report was an earthquake with a 4.4 Richter. No landslide could equal that energy.

It was a glacial collapse that kicked it all off. The huge chunk of glacier collapsing is what caused the earthquake.

The wave pattern on the seismograph would look a whole lot different, more uniform, for a surface-based seismic event when compared to the wave pattern of an actual earthquake.

Here's a good read about a glacial collapse and landslide that caused a tsunami in Greenland. It was picked up on seismographs wordwide and registered a consistent wave pattern for nine days:

In this instance they had the initial quake that occurred from the collapse, and then seismic waves that matched ths giant waves of the tsunami that lapped at the walls of the fjord it occurred within.

ETA: The resultant tsunami in Greenland was estimated to have been over 650 feet high.

Rumors are that it didn’t fall naturally. China was doing some sort of construction and caused it to.

I saw that video on TV. 300 foot wall of water moving 100+ mph. Total destruction. Death toll will be in the tens of thousands I think. Terrible

Not just water: ice, boulders, trees, soil, and anything else swept away as the mass headed downhill.
