County trump won by 17

: Ten months is an eternity in politics, but a stunning Democratic victory Tuesday in a special election deep in the heart of Trump country suggests a blue tsunami could be forming.

Trump won there by 17 points in 2016. A special election was triggered when Gov. Scott Walker tapped a popular state senator, who had held the seat since 2000, to become his agriculture secretary. Last night, Democratic candidate Patty Schachtner won by nine points.

This is happening all over the country in GOP districts. From Oklahoma to Virginia to New Jersey to Wisconsin. Most Trumpkins are in denial though.

Winning elections is more about candidates than party. As time passes people pay less and less attention to party.

Meh. Very local race. For all we know, the R candidate could have been a bad candidate, a la Hillary for the Dems.

And there could have been massive cheating.

GOP had held this district for almost 20 years too.

How does it feel to never get any upvotes? To be the worst poster on this board

Since election night. I've been trying to tell folks that the party in power always gets punished. Just look at the last 30 years and the party with dominant power has almost always been slammed in the mid terms.

Obama and the democrats were dancing with glee at the end of the republican party in 2008. 2010, the party was over for them.

Same will happen now. Folks inherently hate the party in power. Having the media slam Trump 24 hours a day makes a big swing even easier than normal.

Sounds bad, but why is this not all over CNN? It seems like they would be giddy about these results.

That's it. When not wanting to face reality, blame cheating at the polls.

Toddy is the most guilty of partisan bullshite on this board. You shouldn't be surprised by the reaction to him here.

And it's the type to take 2-3 small town elections and run with it as "the whole nation is switching"

From the link:

quote:

“Republicans have [already] flipped four seats from blue to red — two in the Republican-trending Deep South, one in New Jersey and one in Massachusetts,” Dave Weigel notes. “But on average, even in races that went against them, Democrats have improved on their margins from the 2016 rout.

There is an important lesson here for national Democrats: Schachtner is the sort of candidate who can actually defeat GOP incumbents in red congressional districts this fall. She has deep roots in the community, and she is not a fire-breathing liberal.

Her campaign focused not on attacking Trump but fighting the opioid crisis, improving access to health care and bringing good-paying jobs to the region. She didn’t need to talk about the president to benefit from an outpouring of progressive energy and conservative apathy.

Her message was kind of Trumpian. Democrats at the national level don’t have this kind of message. They don’t care about workers. They only care about genitalia and illegal aliens.

important note towards the bottom of the article:

"There is an important lesson here for national Democrats: Schachtner is the sort of candidate who can actually defeat GOP incumbents in red congressional districts this fall. She has deep roots in the community, and she is not a fire-breathing liberal.

Sooo... just how many Congressional Dems gonna follow this playbook?
