Moore got about half the votes that Trump did in 2016, and turnout declined from 66% to about 43%. That's approximately 630,000 GOP voters who basically stayed home. So look at it this way: About as many people decided Moore was unacceptable as voted for him.

This is like a replay of 2010 and 2014.

this was a special election. 43% is extraordinary turnout.

Moore has underperformed before. This isn't shocking.

Incorrect. More than 2 million people voted in the Senate election of 2008 (Session vs. Figures), which was about 66% turnout.

Turnout was down. Republicans stayed home rather than vote for Moore.

I mean yeah but you're also comparing a special election turnout to a presidential turn out. Of course it will be much lower

might have helped if the Senate had actually accomplished something this year

People don't think about judges, probably figured why bother?

This was a HUGE turnout for a special election. Black voters turned out in incredible numbers. Can't figure out if this was against Trump or Moore or both??

It was moore dude. The guy makes it easy to hate him.

Congrats on your big win tonight, toddy. as the president said, hard fought solid win by Mr. Jones.

You may think I am lying, but I really am not upset at all. IS a 52 seat senate majority THAT much different than 51 seat majority? Not really, imo.

I pray that the Alabama GOP puts up a better candidate in 2 years, which isn't too hard to do.

I'm no fan of trump, but this was more about Moore for sure.

Just the Presidential election.

2010 midterms 1.4 million people voted.

Tonight 1.3 million. That's pretty good for a special election.

We all told you he had been despised by Republicans for decades, before the accusations.

We all told he had no signs in any of the major cities.

We were all called idiots.

Well, looks like we were right.
