The ultimate demise of the two bills (HB459 and HB600) was due to Danny Martiny running out the clock in the Senate. However, it should be noted that the list below are House members who represent districts from parishes whose constituents voted for Fantasy last November. These "representatives" voted against the two bills and their constituents.

Mark Abraham - Republican
Beryl Amedee - Republican
Robby Carter - Democrat
Raymond Crews - Republican
Rick Edmonds - Republican
Reid Falconer - Republican
Cedric Glover - Democrat
Dorothy Hill - Democrat
Valarie Hodges - Republican
Frank Hoffman - Republican
Mike Johnson - Republican
Sam Jones - Democrat
Bernard Lebas - Democrat
Sherman Mack - Republican
Wayne McMahen - Republican
Blake Miguez - Republican
Greg Miller - Republican
J Rogers Pope - Republican
Jerome Richard - Independent
Alan Seabaugh - Republican

That's not the point. It's elected officials voting against the people who elected them.

I would have voted against it to. And i'm pro-sports betting. The issue, for me, was the ridiculous 15% tax rate. Why do we treat industries differently? Everyone should be on a level playing field and the government doesn't deserve more taxes because it's considered a vice.

It's like the pro-marijuana crowd who say, "just make it legal and tax the shite out of it"...Why? That's stupid. Why give a free market concept over to the government? More taxes = less individual freedom for that company. And what has the government done to earn "extra"? No better than the mafia wanting to "wet their beak".

No disagreement here, however, no chance any of these people voted against the bill because the taxes were too high.

I think Casinos are normally 21%. There is a significant enforcement/regulatory structure around gambling that costs a lot of money, and I have no issue with the casinos paying for it. In reality, it's the citizens who are paying it, just like all other corporate taxes.

And in any event, I can't remember hearing a single legislature critter complaining about the rate. I did hear a whole bunch of N LA baptists complaining about the expansion of gambling/gaming, even though this is what most people wanted.

Good luck getting those freedom-hating evangelicals to vote for something fun.

I think you misinterpreted this.

The 15% tax (it was actually bumped up to 18.5% in the final bill) would be a tax on the Fantasy Sports administrators, on the fees that they charge Louisiana residents for playing their game. Essentially, the money that a national business is taking OUT of the state. The Tax of 18.5% would keep a portion of it in the state for allowing them to come in and have access to our pool of money.

I believe the casinos have to pay something similar, so this was put in so the competition for our gambling dollars is on an even playing field, I guess. As if we're all sitting at home thinking "Hmmm, will I open up this fantasy sports app and get additional entertainment while I watch the ballgames tonight or will I just go to the casino instead?"

I hate Martiny. He's the worst state senator there is.
