Jesus...
The water in the South Bay is heaven during the Summer and Spring. Its only really unusable from Nov to Feb and even then, a wetsuit does a lot to keep people surfing
I would imagine that's even more true in San Diego

Dude. You need to get out more. Go to Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes etc. If all you did was fly in to LAX, stay by the airport or spend your time downtown, then I can see why you'd feel that way.
Coastal Orange County is paradise. It's all the best aspects of coastal Southern California, with none of the bullshite you have in L.A. and S.F.
You don't see many homeless people at all... None in a lot of areas, there is very low crime, extremely low violent crime, it's extremely clean, roads are all new and well maintained, the people are beautiful, the views are beautiful, and the weather is fricking perfect.
Go to Newport Beach, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Beach, and Dana Point. Then report back.

and TSA doesn't check for THC products any longer at LAX
I've flown all over with THC products in my bag going through security check in airports all over the country. They don't care about THC products anywhere anymore.

You flew into LAX and stopped in Venice Beach to get a feel for the Pacific Ocean, then drove 15 miles to Burbank through literally the worse part of the second largest city in the country.
And you’ve made the conclusion that the west coast is a waste land and the Pacific is shameful?
I can’t even

Guess you missed Sunset, Manhattan Beach, Laguna, Malibu, Newport, La Jolla and basically every other awesome place there in SoCal.
You def missed some of the best parts, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena are nice areas, the airports in most cities is not the best areas.
Burbank airport is by far nicer than LAX!

One of the biggest things Cal has going for it is the ocean and its beaches. But the pacific is so cold there the water is unusable. This is why the Gulf of America wins.
On a Louisiana based message board, I would think this would be a plus. The GoA is warm, but the Louisiana coastline is useless so everybody has to travel out of state to go to the beach...yet the hurricane risk is still very real, none of the benefits of living by the gulf but all of the bad parts of living by the gulf.

We are talking LA and he’s talking about Monterey. He’s trying to compare the two.
I can take you to many places in Los Angeles County that are beautiful and perfectly fine. Hermosa Beach... Manhattan Beach... Redondo Beach... Old Town Pasadena etc etc etc... Then pretty much all of Orange County, other than parts of Anaheim and Santa Ana, is incredible. I'd move back tomorrow if I could. I didn't want to leave but work made me.

I visited Los Angeles during Covid. It's like being on Bpurbon St. during Mardi Gras times 10x. Literally have to wLk around the mounds of human feces and ducked out junkies.

Well there’s your first problem is that you flew into LAX. Next time fly into John Wayne Airport/Orange County which is a small and very nice airport that has the rental cars on site.
Never fly into LAX unless you have no other choice because combined with the rental cars being a few miles away and the traffic, you don’t save any time than you would if you flew to Orange County instead.
Facts.
I love John Wayne Airport. So easy to get in and out, no long lines etc.

I lived 10 minutes from SNA but all my friends in L.A. proper fly outta Burbank now because LAX is such a shite show.

Had to constantly step over people sleeping on the floor/street when I was there.
Throw away humans everywhere.

Pump the brakes kid. Grand Isle doesn’t hold a candle to La Jolla.
Grand Isle doesn't hold a candle to most coastal cities and towns in California.
If any.
Louisiana really got screwed when it comes to pretty beaches and coastline. Fishing is damn good down there though.

I don’t like Cali politics as much as the next guy, but I spent Labor Day weekend driving through the hills on I8 into San Diego - then a few days in south LA area (Huntington Beach Santa Ana).
It’s some of the prettiest country I’ve seen - and the people I met were nothing but kind.
Yeah, I hate the liberal politics of L.A., S.F., Sacramento and many areas out there too... but I'm the rare conservative that would move back to California tomorrow if I could, Orange County or San Diego County for sure. Almost took a job in Tahoe a few years ago... One of the most beautiful places on earth.
Coastal Orange County is one of the most conservative and wealthy places in this nation. All my friends in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Dana Point, Mission Viejo, Tustin etc. are easily as conservative as anyone I know in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi... Huntington Beach has the biggest fourth of July parade and celebration west of the Mississippi. Go to south OC, Dana Point and San Clemente, you have a ton of retired military and that increases as your enter San Diego county. Lots of good peeps down there in OC and SD. I plan on moving back when I can.

PuertoRicanBlaze visits L.A. and is suddenly an expert on SoCal, despite only scratching the surface. Yes, downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and other areas are pretty sketchy and the traffic is horrible, but to compare those areas to O.C. and other high-end beach areas is stupid. Stay in your hick-infested comfort zone.
SoCal is still one of the best places to live if you are rich.
