Hugo and others, here is what you can do to help. Please keep us up to date about your outreach work. We expect you to honor your pledges and do your duty. If not STFU.

quote:

You can help refugees by volunteering at a local resettlement agency; becoming an English tutor; a tour guide; a mentor to a family; donating money, furniture and household items; teaching other people about refugees; urging your elected officials to support refugee resettlement; and employing or encouraging local businesses to employ refugees.

I've noticed on the board over the past couple of weeks this new talking point that a lot of y'all (by complete coincidence, I'm sure) have come up with at the exact same time that you have to do volunteer work or give a lot of money or whatnot before you can credibly have an opinion on refugees, kids without health insurance, etc.

What website or AM radio guy was the origin of it, if you don't mind me asking.

You'd walk out on a Christian church for exercising a Christian practice of helping people in need?

Great. I can't wait for the updates when you actually do something besides sign up on a website for emails.

Truth. Charity starts at home. Take care of ours. Then when they are ok we can look at non citizens.

Thats what i dont get

For the price of sending people overseas to help refugees we can instead get a larger return on our money and help far more people right within our own city

the ones you always complain about? Why don't you help them out, isn't that one of the most fundamental teachings of Jesus? The whole charity thing?

Since when does pointing out obvious hypocrisy require some grand conspiracy?

Libs are always generous with other people's money, doesn't take much to challenge that.

I give my weekly 10% tithe

I'm not a fan of how its being used

Considering diverting that 10% elsewhere

They don't? Then yeah that's a problem.

If they are being consistent and not making a statement then I wouldn't have an issue.

I've been the one pointing this out. If you really want to know where it came from, I'll be happy to tell you. You'll likely be surprised at the origin.

None. No marching orders. Just basic mental exercise in pointing out hypocrisy. If you are going to talk the talk, then walk the walk.

I don't go around saying children vaccines are good and then privately not vaccinate my child due to health concerns.

Pretty simple really.

Phil Ochs - "Love me, I'm a Liberal"

I cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I'd lost a father of mine

But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me
Love me, I'm a liberal

I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every colored boy becomes a star

But don't talk about revolution
That's going a little bit too far
So love me, love me
Love me, I'm a liberal

I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
And I'm glad the commies were thrown out
Of the A.F.L. C.I.O. board

I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
As long as they don't move next door
So love me, love me
Love me, I'm a liberal

The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can't understand how their minds work
What's the matter don't they watch Les Crane?

But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me
Love me, I'm a liberal

Yes, I read New republic and Nation
I've learned to take every view
You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I'm almost a Jew

But when it comes to times like Korea
There's no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me
Love me, I'm a liberal

I vote for the democratic party
They want the U.N. to be strong
I attend all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs

And I'll send all the money you ask for
But don't ask me to come on along
So love me, love me
Love me, I'm a liberal

Sure once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns

Ah, but I've grown older and wiser
And that's why I'm turning you in
So love me, love me
Love me, I'm a liberal
