Libertarians of the board: what is your opinion of job corps?

On the other hand, it could potentially lead to reductions in welfare spending and prison costs in the future
Although various investigations have found it to be poorly run and attracting bad apples. It’s mostly screw-ups who attend job corps camps. Sometimes they are tough to fix.

This could easily be handled by large industrial/construction outfits looking for skilled labor

If private industries are helping subsidize these programs with the condition of offering jobs as these kids graduate then I don't mind

I've known quite a few kids who went through job corps, and most were at risk kids who ended up in jail or on the dole.
It seems the program could be integrated into traditional employment/apprenticeships.

I would be better with the government funding it instead of administering it.
The idea behind the program is sound and it would probably have a greater positive impact on society if it was administered by anyone other than the US Government.

Then why do we spend all that wasted money on government education. I thought schools were supposed to get you job ready. The problem is that schools do little to prepare people for job opportunities.

Job corp, peace corp, VISTA, etc should all be destroyed. Govt make work at taxpayer expense.
