Liberals/Statists are getting the Bundy situation completely wrong

I keep hearing left wing talkin points about the subject of the Bundy Ranch, and their news segments and analysis of the situation. It all centers on the fact that Bundy is a lawbreaker, and needs to be punished to pay for his actions. Therefore because he is a lawbreaker that needs to be punished, any criticism of the government or BLM in this situation is wrong.
In my opinion it has nothing to do with whether or not Bundy is right. That is not what my focus is on in this situation, or what I am arguing about. I could care less if Bundy is right or wrong here.
To me it has everything to do with the government's response to him.
Should we send 200 armed agents toward everyone who cheats on their taxes? What about Timothy Geithner? Should he have been apprehended with hundreds of armed agents? Charlie Rangel? Al Sharpton?
What about people who get caught gaming disability or social security? Do they get raided with dozens of armed agents to collect the money that is owed?
What about illegal immigrants? They break the law every day by coming into this country. Why don't we send hundreds of armed agents to confront and stop them? They are breaking the law, and lawbreakers need to be dealt with, right? We can't let them get away with it. So we need to confront all illegal border crossers with 50 armed agents and seal them out. Just like the agents created the armed border around Bundy.
There are other ways to collect the funds Bundy owed or deal with him without the overreaction of all the armed agents. And those agents were there BEFORE the militias and Bundy supporters came with their guns. The response was unwarranted. Want to collect what he owes or enforce it? Impose a lien, or handle it in another way.
Only the government would spend 1.5 million to collect a milljon

Not everyone but some possibly.

I believe we are in fact doing this.

Ive seen quite a few liberals/democratic talking heads questioning the government response in between bouts of vitriol directed at Bundy. That being said, most of their rants are directed at how Bundy is representative of conservatives on the whole and that is wrong.
Bundy is fricktard, and the government's response to him has gone way the frick overboard. I think this whole thing is a case of everyone being in the wrong and the two sides of the political spectrum desperately trying to argue this shitty situation into their corner.

I agree with this paragraph
I think both sides are wrong
Bundy is probably wrong, and his defiance isn't doing him any favors, but the government is overreacting big time here.
I do agree with his assessment that the government is purposely trying to drive all the ranchers out of that area

For me, its all just more evidence that actually getting things accomplished and bettering the lives of Americans means nothing anymore. Its all about scoring political points and being "right".
The fact that conservatives are championing this idiot is embarrassing, and the liberals cheering on the government's actions against him is just pathetic.

It's about Washington picking and choosing which laws they want to enforce, based on their need. And both sides tend to do this. Like Harry Reid said, "We are a Nation of laws"...the only problem with this is that they only apply to the collective, not the lawmakers.

It's worse than even that.
I heard an interview yesterday with an elected official in Nevada (sorry, did not catch her title).
She says Bundy actually owes somewhere between $100K and $200K, not the $1 million that's been reported.
She says the Feds spent at least $3 million a week to have those 200+ armed agents in Nevada, and were prepared for a 3-week long seige.
The Feds also paid some guy in Utah over $900K to get Bundy's cattle and herd them across the state line to Utah, but the Utah governor blocked the cattle from being brought across the border. That rancher still gets paid.
So, we're up to $4 million, at the very least, to collect what she says is, at the most, a $200,000 debt.
This thing stinks like a whorehouse at low tide.

Yours sounds like a "we were wrong on just about everything but we've got to save face somehow for the love of our guns" post.
What makes you an expert on rounding up 900 cows across 1200 square miles? How many agents does it take to do that in an expeditious fashion when a local loon and his fellow fools have threatened armed violence?
If a couple of BLM agents had gotten killed by those nutcases I am sure you'd be posting now about how incompetent are Obama's agencies.

Yeah - that facts aren't relevant - we got that.

If the tax cheat files a notice with the local sheriff declaring there will be a war if the government attempts to collect, and if the tax cheat has at his disposal an armed militia numbering in the hundreds - then yes, I think that's reasonable.
Bundy hasn't merely "cheated on his taxes" - he's allowed his trespass cattle to roam freely on land that isn't his for decades. (actually, if he paid what he owes, he'd get a big tax write off for it). How would you like it if I set my cows out to graze on YOUR land without your permission? Is that OK with you?
“We were actually strategizing to put all the women up at the front. If they are going to start shooting, it’s going to be women that are going to be televised all across the world getting shot by these rogue federal officers.” - Richard Mack, Bundy "protester"
These are the folks you're defending.

Yeah, but Washington dispatched the tax scofflaws of the Whiskey Rebellion with the quickness - and 12,000 armed men.
