This phrase:

quote:

This business of allowing, particularly junior enlisted, to move their families around the world with all expenses paid every few years is for the birds

implies it. Unless you're saying they can get married, but they can't be with their family?

That will never fly. You'd lose most of the Guard with that one. You're talking taking half of my weekends a month away, and then asking my employer to absorb me being gone an additional week or two.
There would be a million less positions to fill on active duty so we could probably find replacements. And I'm will to look at compensation for guard members to make up for the extra time and maybe even tax breaks for companies that employ guardsmen.

The answer there is not increasing drill/AT time for M-Day, but an overall large increase in AGR (full-time Guard/Reserve) slots.

A large draw-down in the active force should make filling those slots fairly easy.

This is exactly what I'm implying. E-6 and above for enlisted, O-5 and above for officers.

Again, good luck with recruiting.

And O-5 for officers? You're going to tell a guy he cannot be with his family until he's roughly 38 years old at the earliest?

Ya, no.

Officers should be able to get married. Keeping PFC's from getting married is doing them a favor.

I'm just telling from the perspective a currently drilling M-Day Guardsman. It won't fly. Again, it sucks already to give up my weekends, but I do it to defend my country and help my state.

But I have my limits.

You can't complain about military spending and then bash Trump for wanting other NATO nations to pony up.

Um, yes, you can.

Military spending is ludicrously mismanaged. It has MASSIVE waste. Any corporation that acted like our military does with its money would have gone bankrupt AGES ago.

quote:

You can't support wars in Iraq, Libya, and Syria and then want to spend less on the military.

See above. There's plenty of money, they manage it poorly.

quote:

You can't complain that the military is bloated and inefficient and doesn't need the money and then in the same breath complain that other bloated and inefficient government agencies like State do need the money.

Like "State"? WTF does that mean?

quote:

You can't claim that cutting funding to the NIH will hurt the economy and cause people to lose their jobs and then want to cut military spending because the military creates infinitely more jobs and contributes exponentially more to the economy than every other government bureaucracy combined.

That's just statistical bullshite.

quote:

Our military spending is simply the cost of doing business as the world's only superpower. If you want to spend less on the military then we need to start talking about what kind of influence we want in the world. We need to back away from being the sword defenders of Europe and the Western Pacific.

1. China is a superpower. Best get used to it.
2. As a Libertarian, I am of the same thought as the other countries we stick our noses into - we should mind ours and let them mind theirs.

quote:

I for one support doing away with the active duty Army and Air Force and having a large powerful Navy while pulling out of NATO completely and telling Japan and Korea best of luck.

This might be the most idiotic thing I've seen in ages.

Keep the current M day/TPU system. Eliminate the AGR program (of which I am a part). Dramatically downsize the Active Component and have the majority of them supporting the ARNG and USAR. In other words, the system we had before World War II.

Profit.

I'm an M-day guy myself. I'm willing to compromise on this.

How about this. Quarterly AT periods that last one week each instead of one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer combined with tax breaks for companies that employ guardsmen.

So, because the Founding Fathers didn't foresee the power of manned FLIGHT, we should scrap the Air Force?

Now that's an idea I can get behind.

I literally cried when they finally won. Like a baby and don't even care. He is ROTC like me so it does not sting as much.

This. World War 2 ended over 70 years ago. I seriously doubt Tojo and Hitler are going to make any sort of resurgence in Japan and Germany. However, when Germany finally gets overrun by the Muzzies things may get a bit sketchy.

Abolish the Marine Corps and re-brand them all as "Naval Infantry".

No more USMC, because we will call them "Naval Infantry" OR if they prefer, "Sea Soldiers".

WE'll save money because the Naval Infantry will have the same uniforms as the Navy or Coast Guard.

I hope this is sarcasm.

I'd be perfectly OK with that, and so would my employer...but not sure how that would work out for people in shift type positions where the absence would be felt more.
