He is saying to focus on homeland defense, limiting force projection from the AF (which gets back to my if you have it you will use it post) and move those functions over to the Air National Guard. Still a capability. Just re-oriented and transferred to the Guard.

Ya, I gave a couple of my Navy friends complete shite about it for weeks.
I'm an OCS bubba, so no personal skin in the game aside from giving the Navy hell on principle.

Thank you for turning my ideas into coherent officer speak

True enough, but you have to factor in the ability to keep the slots filled.

Air national guard dude.
Isn't most of the air logistics duties of the USAF done either by the ANG or the USAFR? I know all of it on the Navy side are reservists.

I would also say (since I am in Army medicine) get the Hell out of dependent care and retiree care. If we want it to be an incentive then make it some form of insurance program. Socialized medicine in the Army is breaking the bank. It should be focused on supporting Soldiers only. Sorry, I know that is not going to go over well either.

You are scary smart for an NCO. I have never met one like you that has this kind of strategic outlook (outside of SOF).
ETA: I rarely meet officers that have this kind of strategic outlook.

So take the branch with the most advanced technology, the most diverse technical skill requirements, and hand it off to part timers?

The most serious attempt to abolish the Marine Corps was probably in 1908-1909. President Roosevelt supported it and that was a big weight to move the other way. Some Navy officers thought it demeaned the spirit of the average duck to keep what was essentially a police force on each ship.
But - as usual the Army could be counted on to frick things up. The Army didn't want the Advance Base Force concept the Marine Corps was developing and Navy admirals didn't want to give up the personnel strength. This was not for any particular love of the Marine Corps; the Navy just wanted to crap on the Army's turf.

One of the institutional things in the Marines that I recall was - don't complain unless you have a solution.
How do you care for dependents? Compare and contrast and give three examples.

How do you care for dependents?
Seems pretty simple to me.
