School starts this week. Education topics will fill the local newspapers. I'll start with a memory from back in the day.

Phonetics v. Look Say.
Should children be taught to sound out letters or taught words by sight of the whole word?

I was taught by very old women who graduated from Normal schools (that's what education colleges were called in the 30s). They were strict on phonetics. Your thoughts?

It seems to me that any discussion is moot, since the reality will be dictated by whatever the Common Core junk standards have to say, at least in the states that took the money.

Some Common Core Standards would say one thing- other Common Core Standards will prefer another. True Story

Not elementary school related, but I think they need to make college much harder and work to get rid of the "come here to party" atmosphere.

Although, I say this 4 years after graduating.

No. Federal loans for college should be banned.

As long as we place more value on entertainers, athletes, and reality television stars than we do on quality teachers, police officers, and involved parents, any type of "reform" is absolutely useless.

What I found interesting is that kids here don't have lockers.

They have 2 sets of books. 1 stays at the school in the classrooms, the other stays at home.

#weaintasbrokeaswesay

Not only that.. 4 subjects, 100 mintues each class.

If you can find something else that is the cause for the sky-rocketing tuition costs, Scruffy is all ears.
