Headline is misleading - the board has formed committees to research racial issues and their affect on the school. The faculty vote actually carries no actual power except to show “support” for the change, in the end a decision like this is up to the students and the board.

And since Washington owned slaves too, they just gonna call themselves "University"?

In a few months, they'll be changing it to just "University" and leave it to the plebes to figure out.

I’m wondering how long until the school permanently kicks out the Kappa Alpha Order, a fraternity formed there which sees Lee as its spiritual founder.

If anything, Robert E. Lee was the face of reconciliation after the Civil War, but these silly virtue signalers don't see this. And they're supposed to be "learned."
ETA: Alumni need to stop writing checks to the school.

People have squawked about this in the past. I am surprised it hasn't come up again during this wokeness cycle. One school will complain, and the contagion will end Kappa Alpha soon.

Kind of depends on the school.
Many schools are targeting Greek Life as a whole. W&L would likely target them because they are a lingering reminder of Lee’s time as president of the school.

The Administration needs to carefully conduct a study of the overall cost to remove the name from every corner of the University. Then follow up with a counter letter.
"In light of the demand of this faculty, (employees of this University), for the removal of Lee from every building, letterhead and Documents from the state and Federal Governments. We calculate that the overall cost will be X number of dollars. Considering the cost deducted from each Faculty Members salary It will be a return on the investment in five years at a reduction of X $ from each salary. We suggest you carefully reconsider your political agenda here. Since you delivered the message, the Students will not be charged for your poor decision making process. For those of you that are unhappy with working for this fine institution of learning, you can consider ditch digging, MIT or Harvard."

In 1796, shortly before the end of his second term as U.S. President, George Washington endowed the struggling academy with a gift of stock, one of the largest gifts to an educational institution at that time. In gratitude, the school was renamed for the commander of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), president at the Federal Constitutional Convention meeting in Philadelphia (summer of 1787), framer of the American Constitution (1787–1788), and the first President of the United States (1789–1797).
quote:
In 1865, shortly after his April 9 surrender to Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, commander of the Union Armies, former Confederate States Army General-in-Chief Robert E. Lee (1807–1870) was called and served as president of the college for five years until his death in 1870, when the college was thereafter renamed the "Washington and Lee University"
These loons would turn on their own children.

None of these faculty members were forced to work there. They knew the name when they agreed to work. Why the outrage now?

The word “University” is offensive to those who didn’t receive higher education, so they will just be known as “&”.
It’s a symbol, like ...
