Did you find it improbable that a 29 year old government contractor was given access to the government's top-secret data collection program?

No because Snowden was a contractor for NSA and his job was to maintain their systems. Therefore he had access to "need to know" codeword data that he otherwise wouldn't be cleared for. He put a thumb drive in the machines and downloaded the documents. Pretty straight forward and a lot of lax security from NSA.

This is different. This dude had physical copies of many documents. Was he cleared for all this information? If so, how did he leave the SCIF with the documents? It's possible other people's asses will be on the line here as well. There was a breakdown in security somewhere.

Based on another article I read, doesn’t even appear to be ideological, just some jerkoff trying to impress some dork gamer kids.

Why not? I had 19-21 year old kids work for me with TS?

I worked in a SCIF when I was in the airforce. Multiple locations. It’s laughably easy to take what you want.

I 100% can see how this can be legit.

You didn't find it improbable that a mid-20s Reality Winner had access to classified docs after leaving the military and working for a government contractor?

At this point it would be shocking if the leak wasn't from a millenial contractor with less than a couple years on the job.

The only thing shocking about this particular case is that there was no ideological reason - he was just a dumb (really dumb) kid trying to impress even younger teenagers. [ETA: If all the facts available are eventually confirmed.]

It's really not that uncommon to get a TS clearance if you are a uniformed service member (regardless of rank) working in the intelligence field, or officer/NCO above a certain rank, or a DoD contractor (not always but usually retired or separated military anyways). James Bond movies probably romanticized the "Top Secret" phrase but in reality, it's just really sensitive information, and lots of controls are put in place to protect it. Yes, paper copies are routinely distributed for meetings, and in practice, they should all be policed up after the meeting and destroyed. Is it possible that this really junior enlisted man's responsibility was to help in the clean up of the operations center after meetings...yes. Is it possible he would shove copies of these documents into his folder/backpack/whatever....yes, it is possible. Obviously, there are security guards at the doors. Occasionally security will check bags going in and out; however, it doesn't happen every single time. That is how a 20-something uniformed service member walked out of a SCIF with paper documents....I would assume.

Frankly, this kid is just like us...a nobody in the system. He was dumb and deserves punishment. What about Biden's garage full of classified docs? What about the SCOTUS leaker? What about Hillary's server? I don't give two shits about punishing this kid if our system doesn't hold 'our betters' accountable as well. This is all a sick sick joke...and we are the ones being laughed at.

Larry Johnson was on with Judge Napolitano today...he's calling BS. He says this whole story is a fabrication.

I'll try to condense his position.

- Bellingcat is a British intel group and they were the first to produce this story of the young kid, Discord etc.
- Same day, WAPO and at least one other platform picks up the same narrative.
- This is an indicator of coordination.
- Larry says there was one document in the leaked mix that was unique and gave all of this away: it was a document from the CIA that is never circulated outside of the CIA, yet the story is that this guy accessed everything on a military installation.
- Judge asks, 'who could be behind all this?'
- Larry says it would be tied to the ODNI, because that is the one place where CIA, DoD, FBI et al materials can be consolidated.
- Larry said narrative made sense until he saw that CIA document.
- Larry says this info was leaked in order to prepare the US public for the 'crash landing' of US foreign policy, so it came from the top echelon in our govt.
- From interview with Tony Shaffer: Another indicator here is that the FBI is doing the investigation, and they are not honest and will do what they're told and report what they're told to report. When you see FBI, think White House. Larry puts some qualifiers on this, but says all the big players will be involved.
- Larry says not to think of this as a whistleblower leak, it's an intelligence operation.
- Another indicator is that part of the story is that there are 300 more documents out there, yet they can't be found anywhere.
- Another indicator is the narrative is about young, white kid, gamer, right wing, gun nut etc etc.
- Larry says the kid in the interview that WAPO posted is clearly an actor, and asks, 'how do you think they found these kids so quickly?'.
- Larry returns to the one CIA specific document as being very important in understanding that this whole story is nonsense.
- Larry also says it's not reasonable to assume that such a young kid would have access to these items.

Side note - Judge asks Larry about reports that the CIA is aware that money being sent to Ukraine is being skimmed and pilfered and the chief person doing it is Zelensky. Larry says that is totally believable. No one can possibly be surprised by that.

Several people in this thread, with some level of experience, say otherwise and how do you square that with the Snowden, Manning and Winner leaks?

When I was a newly minted butterbar at Ft. Leonard Wood the only secrets I was trusted with was what was for lunch and dinner at the mess hall.
How does is an Air guardsman allowed to view top secret material? He appears to be 17.
