Nowhere in that headline does it say "rape".

No, it doesn’t say “rape” but it does say “woke up”. Do you think she was taking a nap while bent over a chair?

One complaint came from a former employee who said Mr. Lauer had summoned her to his office in 2001, locked the door and sexually assaulted her. She provided her account to The New York Times but declined to let her name be used. She told The Times that she passed out and had to be taken to a nurse. She said that she felt helpless because she didn’t want to lose her job, and that she didn’t report the encounter at the time because she felt ashamed.

I still don't see where it was deemed as non consensual

So you're saying it's impossible for her to pass out during consensual sex?

Sounds like Lauer missed his calling for another media related field.

It sounds dumb given what we now know, but I had to ask the same question, the snippet doesn't outline it. I read the story, the word rape isn't used, the word consent appears once, the word assault is used once in relation to someone else. There's a passage that describes the victim, in a different situation, rejecting his unsubtle advances.

But it doesn't say that the specific "passed out on the floor" incident was rape. On the flip side, Lauer is rich enough to come after the mail in the UK if he chose to, which is perhaps why they're showing some uncharacteristic restraint in their choice of descriptive phrasing.

Ok, I read the article and this seams strange to me. This doesn’t sound like rape, this sounds like regret

quote:

The woman said Mr. Lauer asked her to unbutton her blouse, which she did. She said the anchor then stepped out from behind his desk, pulled down her pants, bent her over a chair and had intercourse with her. At some point, she said, she passed out with her pants pulled halfway down. She woke up on the floor of his office, and Mr. Lauer had his assistant take her to a nurse.

quote:

The woman told The Times that Mr. Lauer never made an advance toward her again and never mentioned what occurred in his office. She said she did not report the episode to NBC at the time because she believed she should have done more to stop Mr. Lauer. She left the network about a year later.

Sounds like Matt Lauer is a fricking BOSS

This, as described, is an actual, legitimate, literal alpha move

The door being locked is relevant. Implies coercion. Apparently the door lock button is fairly standard at NBC and many high level employees have them.

If married - why hasn't her husband kicked Lauer's teeth in?
