He got released because he was an illegal, not a citizen. In "sancturary" jurisdictions, being an illegal is a get out of jail card. No bail. No processing. No nothing. Just get them out before ICE puts a hold on them.

We literally have a class of population that is above the law.

Mayor Girtz's response is even worse, endorsing non-cooperation policies with ICE and minimizing the seriousness of illegal immigration.

He defends the subversion of federal authority by essentially saying, American citizens are worse anyways, so let the illegals go. (3/5)

it is still early, and the facts are not entirely clear, but you are correct.

He was not “released” in El Paso, due to overcrowding. He, his wife and stepson were captured outside El Paso, and ICE put them on a bus and shipped them to New York, where he was given an immigration court date like everyone else. By the time of that date, he had physically moved to Georgia, but he returned to New York and made his immigration court date.

While living in New York, he was indeed charged with a “crime“… a misdemeanor for allowing his stepson to ride behind him on his moped without a helmet. The narrative is that he was “released.“ The facts are still developing, but he probably just paid the fine for the misdemeanor.

Clearly, none of that would excuse a murder. If he killed Ms. Riley, he should obviously be convicted and punished.
