That’s the rumor anyway.
Apparently Gray Television put a memo out that all personnel had to get the shot and 4 or air employees including news director Al Quartermont and the GOAT meteorologist Tom Konvicka were having none of it and resigned this week. The other two were Steven Maxwell, a reporter who has developed a pretty strong social media following locally, and seemed to be pretty big with wanting to promote the community/area; and Javonti Thomas who was co-anchor of the weekday morning broadcast.

It’s no doubt they’ve resigned. They’ve all made official announcements on the news and their social media accounts this week that they’re resigning. They haven’t officially said it was because of vaccine mandates, but rumors are swirling that it was because of the mandates. I’ve been watching Tom Konvicka since I was a kid and I can’t imagine any other reason why he’d up and quit all of a sudden. As a matter of fact he gave his final farewell this evening on air.

If people would just stick together..... almost impossible nowadays..... we’d be alright.

If people stand up for themselves this shite would be over in no time.

A company loses 40% of their workforce? They're going to have some very rough times or they are going to fold and bring the employees back.

Damn, I think Tom Konvicka was there when I was interning at Channel Five in 1984.

Correct! You don’t just up and quit your 37 year job like Tom Konvicka did. Glad they resigned. Wish more would do the same.

Tom is the man when you have a tornado around town.

No matter what The Weather Channel or other local news station’s weather reports would be my dad ( and pretty much every other farmer in Catahoula Parish) would always default back to “Ehhhh. Before we decide on anything, let’s flip it over to channel 5 and see what ol Tom has to say.”

Yeah this is wild! Tom has been there since I was a kid. KALB has always had high turnover but there's no other explanation he and several others would leave so suddenly unless a mandate.

Was just coming to post that exact reaction for Coco. He’s been on the police jury since being on tv.

Also frick Gray TV (their corporate overlord). This is why local stations should be locally owned.

Tom Konvicka has been one of the best things in Ellick for decades; I’m really sick over this.

Why resign and not force them to fire them?

The sickening thing is when you look at just how many local stations companies like Gray and Nexstar own now. I mainly watch Monroe local stations because that’s what Dish offers for this area (I’ve got a box for watching Ellick stations) but guess who owns the Monroe stations? Hint* it rhymes with Smay Zelevision and Texstar Hedia And people wonder why even their local news is slanted one way or the other.

I heard it's a combo of Gray having mandates and apparently the newer KALB manager is a liberal bitch that no one likes

I guess you’ll just have to ask them that

And they may well have very been fired but that feeling I got from reading the post and listening to the announcements they made, and word coming out of Ellick was that they went out on their own terms. I’ve heard rumor of an October deadline to be vaxxed (not sure if that’s true or not) but with four big on air personalities it definitely seems like they banded together and did their own thing.

The person who’s always been there is still listed as the GM; she very much fits the last part but Tom and Al have obviously been able to coexist with her for years.
