In new orleans. Really nice guy, had no clue he was a former governor till his friend mentioned it.
Mississippi baws, how was this guy as governor? He seemed pretty conservative & straightforward. Was surprised to find out he was a democrat.

whiny. He was weak. His own party ran legislature and ran over him all the time.

Democrat or Republican, they are all the same. They just raise money in different areas.

He won election by a whisker against a very poor campaign opponent. In fact, the election left both candidates shy of a majority so the Mississippi legislature selected who would be governor. Democrats controlled and Musgrove was selected as governor by party line vote.
He promoted education as a top issue and vowed to reform and fix Mississippi public schools. He failed completely, probably because teacher unions were some of his biggest fundraisers.
He did help bring some new manufacturing to the state.
He campaigned as a social conservative and followed through on those pledges, supporting and signing a bill banning gay people from adopting children and denying recognition of such from other states. He also supported abortion restrictions and pro life actions and legislation.
He tried to work out a compromise deal on tort reform. Trial lawyers were big fundraisers of Democrats and they were not pleased by the result nor with what they saw as Musgrove’s weakness under pressure.
He ran for re-election against Mississippi heavyweight Haley Barbour, who destroyed him.
