Just because your local hospital isn't overwhelmed w/COVID patients...

...doesn't mean that this pandemic is a hoax. I know some guy filmed a hospital in Dayton, OH and posted video of how empty the facilities are, but that is a deceiving video. It's just as deceiving as videoing all hell breaking loose at Elmhurst in NY or Henry Ford in Detroit or University Medical Center in NO. They are not all alike.
I work at a small community hospital in West Michigan...not near Detroit. Due to the social isolation recommendations, our facility is basically at a standstill...just like many businesses in our area. We're not doing elective procedures. Because people are being screened by a triage nurse for respiratory complaints, our ER volumes are plummeting and the group there is cutting coverage in a move to hopefully make payroll. People are appropriately avoiding the hospital and Urgent Care for minor complaints to keep exposures down.
In our area, the social isolation has created a standstill. Looks like the same has occurred in Dayton. But, the cat is out of the bag in other areas. If we don't want to see Dayton or West Michigan looking like other overwhelmed areas, it's best that we follow the recommendations of the public health experts.
If you look at a map of Italy's outbreak, it is clear that it started in the north in Lombardy.
LINK
The virus spread from there and then the country went into a lockdown to contain the spread. If you look from north to south, you can see that the virus was blocked from spreading and overwhelming the south by this methodology. It's the only weapon we have to tamp down the spread of this infectious disease.
Rural areas will be the last to be overwhelmed by this process...but hopefully this will not happen...and crazy, tinfoil hat wearing...HOAX propagating folks will gleefully say...."See! We told you this virus was a bunch of bullshite!"

For thousands of years, quarantine is the tool humanity has used to fight epidemics.
For some reason, we decided we were exempt.

i think most people are saying that we have already done a good job of stopping major spread outside of some hot spots and we can ease social distancing and get back to work as long as we enact other measures (like quarantine of hot spots)

That's the goal, but the public health experts say that it's WAY too soon. If we eased social restriction recommendations here in Michigan, that crap will break out from the southeast corner and crush Lansing...then Grand Rapids. The domino effect will start quickly. There's nothing that will keep it from progressing except people walling themselves off.

This is now going to become standard protocol for every deadly virus to come our way? Such as the seasonal flu?

Doesn’t mean your local area doesn’t have to shut down like those shitholes, unfortunately. Merry Christmas, big government teet suckers.

Lost me right here...Italy is not a fair comparison to anywhere in the US. I'm so tired of hearing "look at Italy".

I realize that. Just trying to get through to a few folks that are willing to listen to reason. I promise people, the public health folks aren't out to get you. It's actually quite the opposite, they are dispensing the only medicine to help this situation...quarantine/social isolation.

No one has said that.
The overreaction is a hoax.

These people here are not reasonable. They do not listen to doctors on this site (I mean that collectively). Somehow, anything other than considering hydroxychloroquine a straight up cure or talking about the dire situation in New Orleans hospitals makes you anti-Trump.

It's all part of the #filmyourhospital movement across the country.
I don't particularly like it, but I agree with the intent. This virus overreaction is utter nonsense and it is now being exposed.
California, Florida and Texas have well under 1,000 deaths COMBINED. And we are 3 months into this thing!

The hysteria caused media in regard to the virus is the hoax.
The politicization of the response to the virus is the hoax.
The people hoping for drugs not to work so DJT is wrong is the hoax.
Telling us millions of Americans will die based on models using incomplete data is the hoax.
Shall I continue or are you starting to catch on?

The hoax claims that I've seen have revolved around the media's fear mongering
There are at least two folks over 100 years old who have survived and battled through the virus.
That DOES NOT happen when a virus is a deadly as the media is portraying

Damn near impossible to tell. We simply don't have enough tests or PPE in our area to tests everyone that has respiratory symptoms. SO...if you're not high enough priority, we're not testing. Those folks are simply told to quarantine for 2 weeks.

Why? Couldn’t it be at a standstill bc this is all an overreaction? The fact you think the way you do shows your limited ability to be impartial about all of this.
