Not sure if this has been posted yet

Pretty interesting take (3 min video below)
LINK

Essentially his observation is the following: the U.S. armed forces has plenty of historical data on IQ with their recruitment and development of personnel.

The conclusion from the U.S. armed forces is that people with a sub 83 IQ can not really be trained to do anything.

Extrapolate that to society at large and 1 in 10 people meet this criteria. So in theory 1 in 10 people really have no place in society as a functional individual based solely on IQ.

He's much more eloquent than I am. Recommend watching.

Extrapolate that to countries where hardly any of the population even comes close to 83

Gambia, Ethiopia, Senegal, Haiti average around 60-67

I'm sure it is. Was going for something short that people might actually watch.

It's an extremely interesting observation IMO

From what I'm reading the largest country by a long shot on the list of countries with an average IQ below that is India

Hard to believe that a country that big could have such a low overall IQ average

I just don't believe 1 in 10 fit the description of cant be trained to do anything.

I think his statement was that they'd be essentially counterproductive

This makes sense. I'd say another 10% are probably marginal

I've damn near reached a conclusion that these people can't contribute in either a meaningful or sustained way

I love JP, and his larger point here is well made.

I hesitate to second guess him since he’s so damn brilliant and a psychologist to boot, but it just seems an overstatement or exaggeration to say that there is no job that can be done by someone with an IQ of 83 or below. The world will always need garbage men and ditch diggers and grass cutters and fry cooks, etc.

Three of those jobs will be almost completely automated in 25 years.

ANYTHING is a strong word.

I agree with him, but there are a lot of jobs idiots can do.

Those jobs are getting fewer and fewer, however.

Yeah I know. I'm just surprised there is a country that large and populous with such a low iq

Most garbage men are truck drivers that operate heavy equipment with a robotic arm

Most ditch diggers are using heavy equipment to dig ditches

These are not jobs that you want people with extremely low IQs doing just for the safety factor

In my neighborhood the trash cans are provided by the refuse company and it's designed to be picked up by the trash truck at curbside without anyone helping. There may be a rider to help with bulky items but most of the trash is picked up by the truck.
