He's a Cajun who every now and then sounds like Hillary Clinton giving a speech to the NAACP.

He's funny and his approach has been successful.

He should be DEAD by now. So many will have never heard of the name of Coughlin the anti-Semite that stood in the foot prints of Adolph.

As a previous poster mentioned, Mr. Osteen preaches motivation and hope. He rarely mentions biblical scripture in the shows that I have seen of him. Not that he doesn't know scripture, but it does seem like his mantra is the same everyweek.

That is not necessarily bad for those who can be motivated each week by the same message. What he earns as a salary doesn't affect me in any way. But I do question T.V evageline preachers like Swaggart, Benny Hinn, and Murdock.

Personally from my own standpoint I neither covet nor envy any persons wealth in this world. Being able to pay off reams of medical bills would certainly be nice. I could throw all of Bill Gates or Buffets money away in a month to worthy charities or people.

Just maybe you are not paying attention or maybe drawn to people that only have a negative opinion of churches and christians?

Feed the Children

This week... I guess ALL of these events don't really cost anything... nor do they help people within the community???

Fact is, you don't really know what this church is doing. NOR do you care. You just see an opportunity to attack christians.

Feeding the homeless isn't a good thing... and it's FREE to do....

gotta spend money to make money ... ...

Charities are so fricking inefficient. I would create my own and bypass all the dumb administrative fees that clog money from getting services to those in need. I got Gates money then I am a charity. Still, I am going to party like Caesar, Tony Montana, Frank Sinatra and John Holmes until I die.

Pure speculation, but here goes.

Interest on a home loan is only deductible up to $1M. With larger loans, that's a problem. So, as a tax avoidance alternative the Osteens could purchase their home through various iterations of a portfolio arrangement.

E.g., a simple hypothetical in this case would have the Osteens funding a >$10.5M portfolio conservatively invested through Covenant Trust to provide~3-4% returns. That would be juxtaposed against a floating libor+ homeloan arrangement from CT in say the 2.5% range. The 2.5% payments could be written off within the portfolio as a capital loss for tax purposes.

Now that may be completely off the mark, but it's one explanation.
