hate to say it, but here is what probably happened. Sinclair can only preempt Disney for so long as per their contract. Basically, when these companies sign on to broadcast Disney property, they have a limited amount of times they can choose not to air Kimmel.
This cuts both ways, too. Disney can choose not to air certain programs on Sinclair-owned affiliates. For example, it's highly likely that Disney told Sinclair that they would not allow Sinclair to air ABC nationally televised football games. Since live sports make up most of the revenue for these TV stations, it is a powerful leverage chip.
I hate that Disney did this, as it makes Sinclair and Nextstar look like they caved, but in reality they had no other choice.

You can't tell me ABC isn't losing money on Kimmel.
I already sent you the article baw. They were losing money having him off air.

Jimmy Kimmel is back because of people canceling their streaming subscriptions.
That makes him a loss-leader. Like the $5.00 chickens at Sam’s and Costco.

Not the point I was trying to make...
You can't convince me that ABC isn't still coming out losing money by producing the show.
They just may be losing even more money by having him off air because of contractual obligations that would have to be paid regardless of whether or not the show is actually airing.
His contract expires in May. If ABC is actually making money on the show, they'll be trying hard to come to a renewal agreement. But considering late night TV audiences have plummeted in recent years, I have a feeling that Disney isn't going to renew his contract.....or that they'll make him an offer so low that they know he won't even consider it and then they can say "we tried, but we couldn't come to an agreement with Jimmy on the financial terms" so the left doesn't make a big stink about Kimmel being taken off air again.

Don't watch and things will work itself out. Period.

This bullshite started off of a stupid reddit post on r/cfb.
There's multiple groups that would get involved if they tried to pull that.

I look forward to the excuse of the affiliates not tuning in being the reason that his ratings have regressed to the mean and promptly straight back into the toilet coming off the table.

Next thing you know, they're getting beat in the ratings by Gutfeld.. a show on CABLE.
You gotta hand it to Gutfeld.
He's a Libertarian, a confirmed atheist, loves heavy/death metal and is married to a Russian. Doesn't come across as your standard Fox viewer.
But his schtick is making fun of smelly libruls and makes millions playing the game. Good for him.
