Huh? So are you complaining about the raise not being enough, or that it was given with the approval of RINO legislators? Something here doesn't mesh.

A one time $1,000 raise is peanuts, but to post here that's a JBE bribe is pathetic. For 8 years the (R)'s controlled the governors mansion and the legislature and teachers were neglected. Public monies were diverted into charter/private/parochial schools of which many failed students with poor outcomes. Teacher/State retirement systems and health insurance system funds were underfunded and raided by Jindal and his (R) legislative gang. It was full blown rob from Peter to pay Paul, so they could declare they never raised taxes. They still put the state in a $2 billion dollar deficit. Conservatives calling themselves tax defenders, while spending away the future (RINOs). Yet we are to believe that giving them total control again will result in change. PUH-LEEZE!!!!

How many times do you need to hear that money will not solve the issue of low performing schools like you think it will?

Every one of those kids has a cell phone with internet access. Most have tablets or computers at home. They could become an expert in anything they want.

They lack discipline, drive, and care. Money won't solve that.

Like I said, I made good grades in AP classes all through high school. Not saying I'm some genius, but I didn't have any of the tech these kids have today.

All I had at home were Childcraft books, encyclopedias and workbooks. I had parents that cared. I did have the desire to try and work hard to make good grades. Something lacking in most students today.

Again, MONEY WON'T FIX THAT.

We spend tons more $$$ per student in the Wash DC school system. Why are they the lowest performing schools?

When did I say money is going to fix everything? All I mentioned was the difference in funding under Jindal compared to now in response to a single post.

The major reform push I recall Jindal making was to use public funding for the private school voucher program. Wasn't that struck down? Honestly can't recall how it fleshed out in the end

That was one part. The issue was he originally put the money for vouchers in the MFP and that was ruled unconstitutional since the MFP is only for public education. So now it is just funded outside the MFP.

He also essentially gutted k-12 tenure.

He massively expanded charters.

He implemented school letter grade rating systems.

He did some other reforms that either went nowhere (redtape reduction) or got delayed (teacher rating systems)

I read it when it first came out in 2013.

If you build in an inflation factor to call something a "cut" you are a liberal. That's not a real cut.

The article didn't "build it in". It's spelled out in the MFP process.

Say wut? Of course it's implied in your posts and every other article, comment, or argument that exists on the subject. Why even bring up funding otherwise?

Such a weird response...

No, it's not:

quote:

Per-student funding is supposed to grow by a 2.75 percent inflation factor every year to cover the ever-growing cost of everything

The 2.75% is not in the formula, law or the constitution. It's just an expectation in the minds of school boards and unions.

Not getting your inflationary increase is only a cut in liberal land.

Edwards had over a Billion dollars in general revenue more than his predecessor and was nice enough to find an extra grand for the teachers during an election year.

Teachers should be happy with that. He could have sent the money to the lawyers, to the nursing home cabal or to Hollywood.

I was responding to a post about Jindal increasing funding every year. That's it. I didn't bring it up, just disputing one post.

maybe you should "read" the op...the southern average across the gulf coast is 3k higher than Louisiana and Louisiana rank's dead last in the southern region of states for teacher pay. that's just the average pay not anywhere between the average and top pay....just like the oilfield in Louisiana, look at any other southern conservative state and see that Louisiana has a dead economy in the oilfield...that is directly on JBE....I'm not saying Jindal was great at all but we need a conservative who knows how to run shite and get Trump down here to get us going....why a conservative ? because JBE will never work with trump...he is a Hillary supporter and dunno shite about better business, all he ever did to get la. out of the red was raise the shite out of taxes and the rest of Louisiana is still shite...in the end a better economy equals more money for everyone period....Trump with his hands in la. equals more money....
