Raising the minimum wage from $7.25 and addressing the gender pay gap are among the items on Gov. John Bel Edwards’ list of things he wants to accomplish in his second term in office.

Just curious to hear from the business owners who voted for JBE...do any of you folks remember this being discussed in the campaign? And, would this have changed your vote? LINK

Looked, but did not see this posted anywhere...

It was obvious why Edwards didn’t want to lay out his vision of the future, it would cost him votes.

JBE said in one of the debates with Abraham and Rispone that the minimum wage needs to be raised. He didn’t give a figure as to what it would be though.

It's unlikely that very many business "owners" voted for JBE. It's far likelier that a very high percentage of his votes came from employees...and even more from people who are unemployed but highly value free stuff.

I'd bet most of the business owners who supported him are those who make most of their money off of state or local government contracts. I can't think of any business owners who endorsed him that don't fit that profile.

Off topic but not only do i hope for a 15 dollar minimum wage hike, i want a fricking clean dollar gas tax hike and raise state sales taxes even more. "They" deserve the government they elected. ..... Yep I'll be paying it to but I'll fricking do it with a big shite eating grin on my face.

It's likely that JBE will not get any meaningful legislation passed in the next four years, especially with the legislature being more conservative than ever.

It's just going to be pain in the arse gridlock and JBE trying to wear the legislature down with constant vetoes but the GOP should do everything it can to buy off two indies in the house to form a supermajority in the house.

The GOP will have to exercise great party discipline the next four years and that job will be easier with RINO Alario gone and the right leadership for the Senate and the House being installed.

FAR more likely is that JBE buys off a few Senators in the Senate and sustains all his vetoes.

I agree..... But it would thrill me to see Louisiana do nothing the next 4 years. Lame duck status quo lets go.

They just saw RINOs like Julie Stokes get shamed out of running for reelection and Ryan Gatti get his arse handed to him for cozying up to JBE too much on LCCM's first time out, JBE is term limited, his democrat party has no bench behind him in Louisiana with no credible challengers for statewide elections, and polarization between urban and rural is getting more sharper than ever. And if those senators vote to sustain JBE's vetoes too much, they could get in trouble as well, especially if JBE's approval numbers really sink and could be ripe for a primary challenge themselves.

Furthermore, if the legislature forces JBE to veto politically problematic bills and people notice, his so called popularity will sink because he does not have Alario to protect him from that.

One of the biggest reasons's for JBE's alleged popularity was that RINOs did not force him to veto problematic bills.

JBE is a dead cat bounce for democrats in Louisiana.

I wish this would be the case but there's still a handful of weak kneed Republicans among the majority in the House--nothing like in the past but still a few lawyers who dabble in personal injury and are quiet allies with JBE. Oddly enough there's at least one who dabbles in personal injury that's not cozy with the governor and will probably factor heavily in the race for Speaker.

And, despite the supermajority in the Senate the same holds true...although the Senate is finally much more conservative than ever before.

It wouldn't stun me to see Alario take a very prominent job with the administration at some point in the next several weeks...maybe after Dardenne retires?

Then they will join Ryan Gatti and Julie Stokes if they get too close to JBE and help him too much.

JBE had 52% of the electorate vote against him in the first round and only was able to eek out a win because Rispone alienated too many people to win and even then, JBE still needed insane turnout from blacks and to win Orleans Parish by more than Obama won in 2008.

That's not someone republicans want to hitch their wagons to, especially when he's term limited, his democrat party has no bench and he will be forced to veto tough bills.

I made this same prediction a few weeks ago.

Alario may have been forced out of the legislature but that greasy bastard will still have his sleazy palms somewhere in the machinery of government with JBE's blessing.

The only way I will believe that he's not working to our detriment is when there is no heartbeat in his body and his lungs are not exhaling and inhaling.

Didn’t take long for Honor Choade to let us know to the victor belong the spoils. The few producers not actively looking to flee this shithole are about to have their wallets completely emptied out over the next 4 years.

He said in his victory speech that he believes in social justice.

Telling indication where he's going to go the next four years. Would not be surprised to see him market himself big time to national democrats and if so, it will make Jindal's absenteeism in his second term look amateur.

To the OP, yes he mentioned it in two debates and proposed it every year in the legislature. He actually proposed putting it in the constitution for god's sake!

So this should not be a surprise.
