I am assuming that defendants don’t know about specific motions that can be filed by their attorneys. How would they have this niche knowledge about the legal system?

This story makes me physically ill. We live in an evil country with an irredeemably evil government. This is the end result of progressive politics and collectivism in general. The social justice crowd doesn't care about the poor. They don't care about the depressed or distressed. They certainly don't give two shits about actual criminal justice reform. They want to destroy the very things that make us human (family structure, individuality, religion, history and culture). This and the Covid lockdowns should be proof enough for everyone.

Cubbies read an article about changing the PDO system and I think has this bias PDOs all suck.
Free legal knowledge for the board: motions for speedy trial suck and typically put defendants in unreasonable danger. It's not enough time to develop a real defense in the vast majority of cases that are going to trial.

You’re assuming the worst about the defendants, accusing them of knowingly foregoing a speedy trial for unethical reasons. I’m assuming the overwhelmed public defenders haven’t had the time to go over all the potential motions they can file with each of these clients being held perpetually in pre-trial.
Neither one of us knows for sure what’s going on in every circumstance.
