Mentally ill people need to be treated like they’re mentally ill and not be allowed to access weapons that can harm others

Right, and in order to do that they have to get inside the school and shoot a few people. Right? If it looks like they can't even do that, they might come up with something else (like a bomb), but even then they still have to get the bomb in the school.

And assigning a couple of National Guardsman to patrol every entrance/exit of every school in the city pretty much stops that.

Do I really have to explain to you how a mandatory government requirement to check for (essentially) mental defects with the government collecting and storing the medical records could go wrong?

Do you realize that they can't tell whether someone will develop any given mental problem from a brain scan? But they do think they have correlated enough data to say that it reveals "increased risk" for some?

You want the government to have records on people who do not have mental defects, but we think they "might" have an "increased risk" for one in the future?

I have to explain that to you?

Let's don't even bring the fact that you'd have to do these scans every five years or so for them to be at all useful. On 340 million people.

Usually, yes- schools need to harden the hell up.

But, ackshually (i hate being that guy)... I think the reporting on this one (kind of outlier) instance is he shot IN to the building from OUTside of the building.

When did I say the government was going to collect and store the medical records?

BTW I think this would be a good idea for reasons far beyond just preventing incidents like this.

They can't predict everything but they can certainly predict some things. You can tell if someone is epileptic just by looking at a brain scan. You can tell if someone's brain has been damaged by drug use. You can learn a lot from brain scans.

Yeah..it's called preventative care. It would probably be of great benefit to society and to individuals if they participated in this type of preventative screening.
