No different than when the machine gun was introduced. Things evolve, especially in war.

The rationing during ww2 would create chaos today. Every American felt ww2. For me as a child, Vietnam was just something on the TV and radio.

Wars aren’t the same now.

Exactly. It's because our recent immigrants (and our soy-filled urban dwelling leftists) don't understand sacrifice. They're just here for the benefits. That gives me an idea though. Institute a draft and start taking the most recent immigrants first, both legal and illegal, and see how fast they self-deport.

A family who lost a soldier in Vietnem or WW2 is not thinking about scale or how the wars will be measured in history. They both feel the exact same thing.

That is a negative ghost rider imo. Once a bullet, especially being sprayed from a machine gun nest, is fired it is a lifeless chunk of lead. A drone is a real life sniper. They are not easily found but I am convinced the drone warfare is creating a lot of psychopaths. There is some videos out there is the operators horribly toying with soldiers.

But a nation is.

Every dead loved one is a loss to a family, regardless of how that loved one dies. When an elderly grandmother dies in a hospital in lower Manhattan, the family grieves but the world outside marches on. When two planes ram into a pair of skyscrapers in lower Manhattan, taking a couple thousand people with them as they collapse to the ground, the city and the country grinds to a halt.

There is a difference.

As tragic as the Iraq War was for my generation, it speaks to the size and scope of the conflict when you could watch the news tell you the names and show you the photographs of the soldiers killed in Iraq that day before moving quickly on to a story about the World Series.
