Kip seemed to be a pretty good guy for BR.

The progression for red state metro areas has been:

Republican Mayors
Then a White Democrat
Then a black male Democrat
Then maybe a black female Democrat

All of that is fine if the voters vote for them but the black mayors always purge out department leaders that are not black and replace them with people that black with race being the only consideration for the hire.

It plays out over and over.

What do we need to change to allow him to run again? Is there anything we can do? Petition? Beg the metro council?

Baton Rouge needs Kip in for another 2 or 3 terms.

Basically agree, but COAs are not private. They are very much a public agency as they are chartered by the state office of elderly affairs. Not Government, but not private.

To the larger point, no the Mayor does not have control over the COA; but she can't fire the police chief either and she ran on that as part of her platform. She could most certainly call for the head of the COA to step down.

Kip was a great mayor. As the OP stated Kip put BR first and was one of the few that could rise above all the racial mud slinging. He was a credit to the democratic party. Too bad the liberals hate guys like him. Guys that refuse to tow the party line and incite division.

Holden was a respectable mayor. Some of his tax initiatives did not pass, but he was a great cheer leader for Baton Rouge and Louisiana. He'd have made a great Lt Governor.

The modern Democratic party leans into racial tension on a good day. On a bad day they are creating tension to exploit.

This is one of the best threads I've read on this board. Kip was awesome for the city, and even though I thought he was a terrible legislator, he was a good mayor. He did have vision, energy for days, and the good sense to always have someone skilled actually running the city day to day (Walter Monsour, Mike Walker, William Daniel). BroomeHilda was also a terrible legislator, but unlike Kip, she is surrounding herself with staff with a lower IQ than hers (which is quite the challenge), with the only qualification needed being the same ethnicity as hers. I'll never get my aging Dad out of South Baton Rouge, but I've advised my boys to GTFO, and I'll be right behind them when Dad's care isn't my #1 priority.
