I just think it’s wild that they carried out a car bombing that would make ISIS jealous and yet it remains unsolved to this day.

They were/are some mean bastards

If Britain had the same War on Terror policies that we adopted post 9/11, South Boston would have been bombed daily from the 1970's until the Good Friday Agreement.

I’ll let them figure out their own future. Even my Irish heritage doesn’t give me a say.

yeah bc despite the warnings the police moved people towards the bomb

With the open borders (for now) a United Ireland is symbolic.

According to my friend they are popping off fireworks in Ireland cause of the Queen's death so frick them.

Last time Northern Ireland voted on this issue they voted to stay a part of the UK. If they vote to reunify they will be allowed to do so.

If they can secede from the UK then states in America should be able to do the same.

Irish reunification is a weird issue right now. Brexit has put Northern Ireland in a real bind. See, the treaty that ended The Troubles requires an open border between Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. However, for Brexit not to have a hole in it, goods cannot be allowed to flow unfettered from Ireland to Northern Ireland. For Northern Ireland to remain a part of the UK, the flow of people and goods should be unfettered from the Isle of Britain. Basically, they’re stuck with either being cut off from trade and movement of peoples from the rest of Ireland, the rest of the UK, or both.

Supporting the reunification of Ireland also means supporting expansion of the EU and, in many ways, opposing Brexit.

It’s kind of a “damned if you do/damned if you don’t” kind of situation.

After 800 fricking years of oppression - that’s just too god damned bad

ETA: plus the British law that put you in jail if you even spoke about the IRA or Fenians was in effect way before Enniskillen.
