Texas Presidential Primary 2016:

Cruz 43.6%
Trump 26.7%
Rubio 17.7%

So he's polled that high among Texas Republicans and you think he's despised here?

Not seeing it.

His family moved to Texas when he was 4. He's about as Texan as you can get without being born here. And I didn't vote for him in 2012 or 2016. But he'll get my vote next year bc I'll be damned if I'm voting for a Democrat with how unhinged they are right now.

By the politicians? Yes. By the people? Meh. Democrats won’t win Cruz’ seat.

It's an intriguing matchup. Beto has a pretty good resume. The kid beat an old-school, DNC corrupt, Hispanic mainstay (Silvestre Reyes) in a hispanic district back in 2012 primary. That was rather impressive.

Having said that, Beto needs work on being a little more folksier and at-ease when campaigning, esp in rural areas where that would come in handy.

Hmmm - I'd like to know one reason a Texas Republican would 'despise' Cruz.

Any hints on that universality???

You can bet that 3 weeks in front of the election the Dems and fake negative news will paint him as some sort of sex monster.

What has Ted done to anger folks in Texas?

He's a gapping a-hole and Trump made him his bitch. He lost a lot of respect.

Given that many Republicans have more respect for child molesters than Dems, looking like a simpering fool when Trump embarrassed him and his wife won't make much difference, but still.

Bottom line, every Dem in Texas hates him and 90% of the Repubicans know he's a jerk, but he's smart as frick and is on the red team.

I saw the guy in Arlington, and he's very at ease and has been spending lots of time in rural Texas.

From a folksy/friendly side he's ten times ahead of Cruz. You all have seen Cruz on TV. He's an arse. Beto is a Kennedy wannabee, but he's comfortable in his own skin and he's got charisma. He'll win some folks over in this election. Not enough to win but he may be a force to recon with.

George W. Bush was able to win over Hispanics and Beto is going to do the same. I'm not sure it is because Cruz is Cuban or he's just not that affable, but he's not going to win Hispanics or blacks.

Universally despised within your little political bubble, sure. Seems like a douche to work with.

But he is not "universally despised" across the state. And he'll still smoke Beto by 10 points or more.

It's a pretty big mental leap to consider the defeat of an alleged child molester in Alabama as a potential jump off point for dems in TX, when there has been really no other evidence to suggest it.

We know you would never vote for anybody with a D behind their name anyway. Its going to be okay snowflake that Alabama didnt endorse a serial pedophile.

Taken straight from Beto’s website:
LINK

He is as left wing as it gets. Very progressive on all issues. Cruz will mop the floor with him.

Jobs:
-wants to increase federal spending on infrastructure to create new construction and manufacturing jobs for out of work Texans. Already being done right now Beto under GOP leadership. No way he can debate any republican on the success Texas currently has as far an economic growth.

Government Accountabiliy
- term limits for members of congress.
Well Beto, Cruz already has a bill proposed outlining that very thing.
-ensuring the government works more efficiently and costs less by eliminating redunant federal regulations.
Already done Beto, see clip of Trump this week.
-No PAC Act preventing politicians from accepting money from PACs.
This is something I can get behind. But his own party would never vote for it. In a few short month next year he’ll have a lot of big money thrown his way to turn the seat blue so he’ll just look like a hypocrite.

Healthcare:
- betos loves obamacare
- wants to expand Medicaid
- wants to ultimately achieve universal health coverage.

Immigration:
- he wants to pass the Dream act
- he wants to reform laws to legalize the status of all of the millions of illegal immigrants here.
-he wants to modernize the visa system to all us employers to find workers for jobs that American workers can’t fill. (Stop providing welfare to healthy Americans that can work but choose not to)

Economy:
Vague platitudes that provide zero specifics

Energy:
- empower the epa to exercise oversight of those harming the environment, particularly drilling, fracking, pipeline.
- join the Paris climate accord
- enacting comprehensive energy reform that opitimizes the uses of current energy sources while incentivizing the innovation of new and renewable energy. (Aka let’s place regulations on energy companies and give subsidies to renewable energy companies- see how well that worked out for the 40 solar/wind companies obama subsidized that went bankrupt)

Higher Education:
- wants to increase funding for Pel grants scholarships and the federal Perkins loan program. (Yepeee more handouts to college students who go $100k in debt)

Equality:
- ensuring Americans are paid equally and treated fairly regardless of gender. End wage discrimination and close the gender pay gap.
- repeal DOMA entirely. Ensuring same sex couples equal access to benefits regardless of the states they live in.

You quoted a post I made about Beto's being more likeable than Cruz but then spoke about issues.

Beto is certainly in on standard Dem approach to government, but Texas is turning more blue.

I'm not going to go through each of you posts, but your first point about infrastructure is wrong. Trump should have proposed a big infrastructure bill but he hasn't.

I don't have any illusions of Beto waltzing in and winning. But if there is a blue wave, he's going to be well set to make run because he's actually an interesting guy and he is going to do really well with women.

If Trump is still being Trump and Cruz doesn't do something to show he can stand up to Trump in the next few months, Beto has a chance.

I think he supports Israel too much and I would probably vote against him in a Reoublican primary. That said, theres no way I would ever vote for Beto. I'm going to do what I can to get some people that would otherwise not vote or vote for Beto to vote for Ted. We can't lose this race like Alabama did. I will probably move out of Texas if Ted Cruz loses this race.

I used your quote to engage with you. Had nothing to do with what you said.

Trump spoke more on infrastructure than Bernie and Hillary. And was the only GOP candidate to harp on it in the primaries. He (trump) stated multiple times he wanted to tackle healthcare, taxes, then infrastructure in that order. So look for him to bring it up next year.

Texas turning blue is an illusion built on illegal immigrants coming through the border that have garnered increasing votes over the years, that’s it. Corporations don’t flee California to come to Texas because the weather.. there’s a reason.
It’s the most well run state and functioning government in the country and has been for quite some time. Betos proposed issues are counter to everything that has made Texas the great state that it is. I don’t see moderates throwing a wrench into the well oiled machine that they have here. Beto will get his votes from minorities (his delusional over promises) and women (his looks). Other than that I just don’t see him or the blue wave hitting Texas any time soon. Perry will replace Cruz if it comes to it which is such a hypothetical. Rick would mop the floor with any Dem.
