Is it illegal to replace/fire an Ambassador for the US?

There seems to be such an uproar that this US Ambassador to Ukraine was let go. Wasn’t she appointed to the position by Obama in 2016? Do you just get to be ambassador forever? I’m just trying to understand.

No.
They serve at the pleasure of the president. It is an appointed position.
Presidents can sack every ambassador the day they enter office if they wish (along with every US attorney)

Apparently, it's actually illegal for Trump to undo anything that Obama did. Period.

Until Trump, the comings and goings of ambassadors was not newsworthy.
Hell, the murders of ambassadors wasn't newsworthy.

That's the argument they're making about DACA in front of the Supremes

There’s a lot of pearl clutching these days due to the president exercising various authorities well within his Constitutional purview. It is all hysterical bullshite.

Of course not. If that Hire is not towing the line for their Boss...out they go. Obama fired Republicans left and right; it is ludicrous for Trump to retain any Obama people. The division and antipathy is to too stark

That's their argument for a few things.
"Well, Obama did it, and Trump didn't give a very good reason for wanting to undo it, so... he can't."

She has been a US ambassador since 2005 fyi. She just got moved around within the department. I would say it's fair to label her a GWB appointee, although she was a bureaucrat even before then, just not ambassador

Thank you for the responses. I figured the President has the authority to hire/fire who he wants.

And she wasn't fired from State either -- she just lost that position

So she was just moved around within the department, still works for the government, but it’s still Orange Man Bad?

Yep. I just wouldn't label her as an Obama person/appointee when she's been doing this for so long and was already an ambassador before Obama

This.
Yovanovich should count herself lucky she didn't find herself underemployed on Jan 21, 2017.
